Horse Racing Tips: Springs can jump to it on Wednesday

There's a mixture of Jumps and Flat racing in the UK and Ireland on Wednesday, with five meetings taking place from late morning into the winter evening.
Among my horse racing tips for the day is a five-year-old mare dropping in class and back racing against her own sex in the mares’ novices’ hurdle at Ludlow.
Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, December 18
12:15 Ludlow - Springs A Girl @ 9/1
SPRINGS A GIRL is representing Martin Keighley in the Class 4 extended 2m5f Mares’ “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle from Ludlow, with Daire McConville claiming 7lb and continuing a winning association in the saddle.
Keighley is 18-119 (15%) with his runners at Ludlow, and McConville is 2-22 (9% +£62.50) when riding for the yard.
The selection is hard to fancy at first glance as she finished last of six, beaten 21 lengths, at Newbury recently, but Wednesday’s drop in class and returning to racing against her own sex are notable factors in her favour.
She registered a personal best hurdling Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 104 at Newbury. The comfortable winner that day, The New Lion, is one of the brightest novice hurdling prospects stabled this side of the Irish Sea.
Springs A Girl won a Listowel bumper on yielding to soft ground when trained in Ireland, before joining Keighley, and she won a 2m6f Stratford maiden hurdle on good to soft ground on her penultimate start in October, so the slight step back up in trip on a similar surface is going to suit.
The Listowel third is now rated 118 over hurdles, and the Stratford second went close in a similar mares’ contest at Warwick recently, all of which suggests the selection is likely to take another step forward on this seventh career start.

15:10 Ludlow - Rockvale @ 12/1
ROCKVALE is a fascinating contender representing local Whitchurch handler Sam Allwood in Ludlow’s Class 4 2m4f Handicap Chase.
The five-year-old gelding is making his debut over regulation fences from a mark of 93, having cut little ice in his three starts over shorter trips over hurdles since the beginning of October. This switch to chasing under rules is a big positive, though, as he is a half-brother to the 2m4f chase winner Fit For Fifty.
The selection is potentially thrown in if judged on one piece of his Irish point form when finishing an eight-length second to McLaurey over 3m on soft ground at Lisronagh in November 2023. That winner recently registered an RPR of 121 when third in a Punchestown maiden hurdle.

15:45 Ludlow - Kazontherazz @ 11/1
Finally, KAZONTHERAZZ is certainly one of the best-handicapped contenders in Ludlow’s concluding Class 4 extended 2m5f Handicap Hurdle for female amateur jockeys, and she is given another chance to shine following a rather lacklustre return to action after a 107-day break over 3m at this course recently.
She finished a close second in this race last year on soft ground, and a reproduction of that level of form may suffice on this occasion from a 2lb lower rating.
