Flat horse racing

There are five race meetings down for decision across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday, including Jumps action from Hereford and Wetherby plus Flat fare from Southwell, Dundalk and Kempton.

I've picked out three horse racing tips for the day's action, including an 8/1 each-way play in one of Betfred's Extra Place Races.

Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, February 12

  • 14:30 Wetherby - Sound And Fury @ 6/1
  • 17:40 Dundalk - Annaghmccanns each-way @ 8/1
  • 18:30 Kempton - More Than A Feelin @ 7/2

14:30 Wetherby - Sound And Fury @ 6/1

A trainer and jockey in fine fettle team up in the racingtv.com Handicap Chase at Wetherby as Ben Pauling has enlisted Kielan Woods to partner SOUND AND FURY in this three-mile handicap chase.

The Milan gelding got off the mark at the second time of asking over fences when scoring at Uttoxeter (3m, soft) in Woods' hands in December. He had also partnered him to his previous hurdles success at the Midlands venue, but was missing when Sound And Fury was beaten last month at Newbury.

A pair of first-time blinkers are deployed on this trip to Wetherby and this could be a good spot for the eight-year-old to shine.

Woods is 3-9 lately and Pauling's string are also going well. They can combine for Wetherby success on Woods' only scheduled ride at the meeting.

17:40 Dundalk - Annaghmccanns each-way @ 8/1

Plenty of competitive fare from Dundalk on their midweek card and the Stuart Crawford-trained course winner ANNAGHMCCANNS is one that might be set to outrun her odds in the handicap over 1m2½f that closes out the card at the Co Louth circuit.

Crawford is best known for his jumpers and it's a relative rarity for him to have a runner on Ireland's only Polytrack, though he doesn't have a long journey to make down from his base in Larne.

This mare won over a mile in maiden company here in November with today's rider Wayne Lordan in the saddle.

She sat just off the pace that evening and was pushed into the lead at the 2f pole, going on to score from Dermot Weld's next-time-out winner Aratayvo.

Either side of that win, Annaghmccanns two efforts here have been less promising but she was ridden by claimers in both instances and gave up plenty of ground leaving the stalls in both cases.

This increased trip off a short break could yield further improvement and the return of Lordan – fresh from a Friday night double here – has to be viewed as a positive.

This is an Extra Place Race, with 3 places available instead of 2 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

17:40 Dundalk - Each-way (3 places - 1/5) Annaghmccanns

Odds correct at time of publishing.

18:30 Kempton - More Than A Feelin @ 7/2

The hat-trick seeking Gaiety Musical is respected for David Evans after wins here and at Wolverhampton but MORE THAN A FEELIN can give her some food for thought.

Alice Haynes' daughter of Sea The Stars had a double of her own in October/November, scoring here over C&D and then following up at Wolverhampton over the extended-mile under an 8lb rise.

She was denied the hat-trick at Dunstall Park in December but she was done no favours when front-running outsider Silk Bird retreated into her path and she had to go around rivals.

She renewed her effort but perhaps didn't quite see out that longer trip giving weight to the field.

She's up into Class 4 company now but runs Kempton well, with figures of 21 over track and trip and that August defeat coming behind a David Menuisier inmate that won his next two and went close at Newmarket off a mark of 86 in his attempt for a four-timer.

18:30 Kempton - Winner More Than A Feelin
