Leicester races scaled

Two of the three meetings across the UK on Wednesday are over jumps as they go at Doncaster and Leicester before an early-evening all-weather card from Kempton.

Amongst our Wednesday fancies is a promising chaser representing the notable trainer and jockey combination of Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch at Leicester.

14:15 Leicester - Hunter Legend @ 6/4

Hunter Legend is representing Venetia Williams in the Class 4 2m handicap chase from Leicester on Wednesday afternoon.

Williams has a 31% strike-rate with her runners over fences at Leicester and Charlie Deutsch is a significant positive factor continuing in the saddle, as he is one of the best riders of a chaser around with an 18% strike-rate when competing over fences for Williams.

The selection is a half-brother to the same stable's high-class chaser Cepage, so it really was no surprise how well he took to fences on his eighth career start when almost making a winning debut over the larger obstacles at Ludlow in November.

The seven-year-old is entitled to build on that initial experience and the switch to this stiffer course on a likely easier surface should bring his abundant stamina for this 2m trip into play.

He registered a Racing Post Rating of 107 at Ludlow and his claims of going one place better are pretty clear despite a 3lb higher mark of 100 following another small break.

18:30 Kempton - El Cordobes @ 11/8

Two horses stand out to this observer in the Class 5 1m three-year-old Novice Stakes from Kempton on Wednesday evening, namely El Cordobes and Condor Pasa representing Charlie Appleby and Roger Varian.

Both handlers do particularly well with their three-year-old runners on this course, both horses are well-bred individuals who should thrive over a mile on the all-weather at a track like Kempton and James Doyle and Jack Mitchell have strong strike-rates for the respective yards.

Condor Pasa is making his debut, though, and he will need to start off at a pretty useful level if the selection finds as much anticipated progression from his debut course-and-distance sixth last month as seems likely. The son of Frankel has a better draw on this occasion which can only help.

19:30 Kempton - Birthday Angel @ 11/4

Lastly, Birthday Angel has strong form claims in the first division of the Class 5 1m3f Novice Stakes for older horses slightly later on Kempton's all-weather card.

The four-year-old is well related, but largely outstayed his mainly speedy pedigree when rallying into fourth on his debut over 1f shorter on Lingfield's Polytrack last month.

He should appreciate this 1m3f trip on that evidence and the second that day finished fourth in Listed company back at Lingfield on New Year's Eve to give the form a significant boost.

Archie Watson went an encouraging 4-23 in the past 14 days and Watson's horses also tend to go well at this venue.
