Horse Racing Tips: Two Saturday selections from Cheltenham

Jumps racing holds sway across the UK and Ireland on Saturday afternoon and it's the November Meeting at Cheltenham, featuring the Gold Cup Handicap Chase, that takes centre stage.

My horse racing tips from across the cards includes a value play or two from Prestbury Park.

12:35 Cheltenham - Galactique @ 16/1

Saturday’s opener at Cheltenham looks competitive but there’s one that makes appeal at double-figure odds against those at the head of the market.

The horse in question is GALACTIQUE, who has looked highly progressive in his career so far. He chased home re-opposing Lord at Fontwell in August on his debut over timber and gained compensation for that defeat back at that venue in September in maiden hurdle company. He then bettered that performance with another Fontwell success when making easy work of a nice prospect; his best run to date.

Gary Moore has traditionally done well with his juvenile hurdlers and there’s a good chance this runner has more to give in the 2025-26 season, particularly if he takes to the likely slower ground here, which he has a reasonable chance of doing given his pedigree.

With the yard in flying form, this runner looks like a value each-way play at double-figure prices, while his prominent running style ought to be well suited to Cheltenham’s Old Course.

13:10 Cheltenham - Chambard each-way @ 28/1

The ground is likely to be testing with plenty of rain expected on Friday and if it is soft/heavy conditions, one horse that will relish the going is CHAMBARD.

Venetia Williams’ veteran comes into his own when the going is tough, as seen when winning in bottomless conditions at Aintree the season before last.

He failed to fire in four runs last season but the fact he’s stayed in training at the age of 13 going on 14 has to be considered a positive, while his trainer, who excels with staying chasers, must be confident he has more to give.

He’s now on his lowest mark since March 2022 and went close in this race on his seasonal reappearance in 2023 from 4lb higher; he looks overpriced and rates a cracking each-way play in this Extra Place Race.

13:25 Wetherby - Marche d’Aligre @ 9/2

It’s also going to be testing conditions at Wetherby on Saturday and one that will relish getting his toe in is MARCHE D'ALIGRE.

This son of Seahenge was highly progressive on the Flat in France on testing ground before making a winning debut for Jamie Snowdon at this venue a year ago.

He subsequently finished runner-up in Grade 2 company at Chepstow and he didn’t get his preferred conditions in three subsequent runs.

The yard have had plenty of their string ready to fire first up this season so the lay-off isn’t a worry, while they could hardly be in better form with 11 winners from their last 24 runners at the time of writing.
