The summer is in full swing and Newmarket’s July meeting is just around the corner. There’s plenty of racing action to look forward to before that, however, and there are five cards taking place across the UK and Ireland on Tuesday.

Read below for Tuesday's racing tips, which features three strong fancies including a a Classic-placed runner for Jack Channon that can return to winning ways at Pontefract.

Tuesday's Racing Tips - July 9

  • 15:10 Pontefract - Caernarfon @ 17/2
  • 15:40 Pontefract - Flaccianello @ 9/2
  • 16:45 Pontefract - Bateman @ 9/2

15:10 Pontefract - Caernarfon @ 17/2

The best of Today's Horse Races is undoubtedly this Listed contest and Jack Channon’s CAERNARFON may have been overlooked by the market. She certainly has the form in the book to make her one to look out for at Pontefract.

The daughter of Cityscape won a Listed race over a mile at Newmarket as a two-year-old and was far from disgraced when third at this level over course and distance before that.

It’s also worth noting that the last time she ran over a mile, she finished fourth in last year's 1000 Guineas which is very respectable form indeed.

Her best effort to date perhaps came in the Oaks last year where she managed to finish third at a massive price. Channon’s filly hasn’t performed at the same level so far this season but the drop in grade will help and this is a good opportunity to get back on track.

15:40 Pontefract - Flaccianello @ 9/2

FLACCIANELLO won three times as a two-year-old and while she’s yet to score so far this term, that could be about to change on Tuesday. Look out for Richard Fahey’s filly as she should be capable of winning off this sort of mark.

Second in a good race for fillies at York last time, she was perhaps a little unfortunate to go up 1lb for that effort as the winner was very impressive. She was doing her best work late on that day and kept on well to claim the runner-up spot. The somewhat stiff 6f here may well be in her favour and provide the necessary test of stamina for her to go one better.

Two of her three wins last year came in very competitive nurseries which suggests that she’s well suited to handicaps and it surely won’t be long before the three-year-old wins again.

16:45 Pontefract - Bateman @ 9/2

Gemma Tutty’s BATEMAN makes his handicap debut here and there could be any amount of improvement still to come. He finished sixth on debut here over 6f back in September, keeping on well that day despite getting badly outpaced.

The son of Ten Sovereigns goes substantially up in trip here and the extra two furlongs could facilitate plenty of progress, judging by his three runs so far. Tutty’s gelding is still learning on the job and it’s highly unlikely that we’ve seen the best of him yet.

Three-year-olds receive a substantial allowance of 9lb here which makes it very hard to rule out a big run from Bateman.
