Following the news that Exeter has been abandoned, there's just two meetings taking place on Tuesday - one over Jumps and another on the all-weather.

One of our standout fancies across the two cards is a hugely-progressive horse trained by Geoff Oldroyd who will be attempting to complete his hat-trick at Southwell.

  • 19:00 Southwell - Doctor Khan Junior @ 5/1
  • 19:30 Southwell - Enola Grey @ 13/8

14:10 Market Rasen - Lagonda @ 11/4

Yet to win over fences under rules, Venetia Williams’ Lagonda has every chance of breaking her duck in this company.

This mare won a maiden hurdle at Chepstow back in April and it’s a relatively rare occurrence for Williams to have maiden and novice hurdle winners, outside of handicap company.

It was a good effort from her at Chepstow last time out and she kept on really nicely to comfortably hold on to second after being headed. The handicapper has left her mark alone and she’s likely to run a huge race once again.

It’s fair to say that this contest looks a little easier than her last outing and the yard has been in smashing form for most of the season. Operating at a strike-rate of 25 per cent over the course of the campaign so far, you wouldn’t want to rule out another winner here.

19:00 Southwell - Doctor Khan Junior @ 5/1

One progressive horse to be on the lookout for is Oldroyd’s Doctor Khan Junior. This lightly raced five-year-old has a cracking record on the all-weather, with three wins from his five starts on artificial surfaces.

He’s actually unbeaten in all-weather handicaps and was particularly impressive at Wolverhampton last time out. The result never looked in doubt and he pulled comfortably clear in the final furlong to win by three-and-a-half lengths.

The handicapper has responded with a 9lb rise which looks fair enough on the visual evidence and this horse is probably one to keep on side until his limitations are exposed.

Oldroyd’s charge will attempt to complete his hat-trick and the very successful partnership with Harry Russell, who is four from six on the horse, is set to be maintained. A two-time winner on Tapeta at Newcastle, the surface won’t be an obstacle for him either.

19:30 Southwell - Enola Grey @ 13/8

Gemma Tutty appears to have worked wonders with Enola Grey, who has been in excellent form since joining the yard in November. The four-year-old is attempting to complete a hat-trick and has every chance of doing so, in the hands of 7lb claimer Ethan Jones.

Filling the runner-up spot in her first three starts for the yard, including in a better race over course and distance on December 12, she managed to get her head in front at Newcastle four days later.

Running again at the Tyneside track last time out, a 2lb rise in the weights wasn’t enough to prevent her from following up.

Life will be a little harder here now that she’s been raised a further 5lb but she’s in the form of her life and has to be under consideration.

This is a filly that is clearly thriving and enjoying her racing, which makes her hard to overlook, and more success could be on the agenda.
