Leicester flat races

There’s a little something for everyone on Tuesday, with Flat - including all-weather action - and National Hunt racing represented. Leicester is the first port of call, followed by Huntingdon, Brighton, Galway and Southwell.

My horse racing tips for Tuesday includes a progressive type for Arc-winning trainer Ralph Beckett that should still be ahead of the handicapper.

Horse Racing Tips - Tuesday, October 8

  • 19:30 Southwell - War Bride @ 5/2

15:00 Huntingdon - Recoded @ 10/3

RECODED made four starts for previous connections, showing plenty of promise in three of them, and this looks like a good opportunity to get off the mark on his debut for trainer Harry Derham.

Perhaps the six-year-old’s best effort to date was his second-place finish behind subsequent Aintree Grade 1 runner-up Staffordshire Knot in a bumper at Fairyhouse in January. That form is levels above anything else on offer here and a big run is expected with that in mind.

Derham's career stats at the track are impressive, with seven winners from just 16 runners giving him a strike-rate of 44 per cent. A further four of those runners have placed which means he rarely comes home empty-handed when sending horses here.

16:25 Leicester - Lord Melbourne @ 11/4

Leicester’s competitive 1m2f Class 3 handicap could go the way of LORD MELBOURNE, who has won two of his four starts since joining the yard and put in a game performance to come out on top at Epsom when last seen.

A 3lb rise looks pretty manageable and he was a good fourth in a better race at Ascot over 1m4f back in July. That form is among the best on offer here and the drop back to 1m2f isn’t a concern.

Today's Horse Races

This four-year-old is clearly going the right way and both trainer and jockey will be full of confidence off the back of their huge win in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at the weekend.

Lord Melbourne is probably still ahead of the handicapper and he should be there or thereabouts once again.

19:30 Southwell - War Bride @ 5/2

Amy Murphy’s WAR BRIDE has taken her time to get to grips with handicaps but her last three starts have been much improved, particularly when winning at Yarmouth last time out.

Making all the running that day, she was always travelling well under Danny Tudhope and controlled the entire race despite edging right in the final 110 yards. Hollie Doyle takes the reins today and you could hardly ask for a better deputy.

War Bride showed a good attitude to get off the mark in a Lingfield novice back in January and now that the penny has dropped in handicaps, further progress seems likely and she should at least be competitive off this mark.

Betfred are offering your stake back (up to £10) as a free bet if your selection in this race finishes 2nd.
