There are five meetings across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. They race at Chester and Kelso in the afternoon, while there are three evening meetings from Fontwell, Gowran Park and on the all-weather at Kempton.

I have three Wednesday racing tips, including a promising three-year-old sprint handicapper on the first day of Chester's May Festival.

Wednesday Racing Tips

  • 14:35 Chester - Due For Luck @ 8/1
  • 15:05 Chester - Forest Fairy @ 11/4
  • 16:45 Chester - On A Session @ 6/1

14:35 Chester - Due For Luck @ 8/1

DUE FOR LUCK makes significant appeal in the now 11-runner Class 3 5f three-year-old Handicap at Chester on Wednesday.

His training combination of John and Sean Quinn are 3-24 in the past 14 days including landing the Thirsk Hunt Cup through Titan Rock last Saturday and his jockey Jason Hart is 8-41 (20% +£3.83) when riding for the Quinns.

The selection may be best caught fresh on this seasonal reappearance as he won on his debut over 5f at Carlisle on good ground in June last year and followed up under a penalty over 5f at Ripon on decent ground after a 62-day break.

The son of the American sire Due Diligence raced prominently in those successes, so a low draw in stall two is potentially beneficial on this constantly turning track should the breaks open up for him off the home turn.

He proved well named when beaten a head over this course and distance off this mark in a nursery last September, as the gaps refused to open up for him in a timely enough fashion on that occasion when considered an unlucky loser.

Two lesser efforts towards the back end of that first campaign are easily excusable on account of soft and Tapeta surfaces, and he is likely to be primed to gain some compensation back on this course from an exploitable rating after 191 days off the track.

15:05 Chester - Forest Fairy @ 11/4

FOREST FAIRY is worth backing in the Listed extended 1m3f Cheshire Oaks at Chester.

The daughter of Waldgeist made a lasting impression when running out a six-length winner on her debut over 1m4f at Wolverhampton in February despite an unhelpful beginning when slowly away, and it feels significant that her connections have chosen Chester for this preparatory start ahead of a potential tilt at the Group 1 Oaks at Epsom later this month.

Ralph Beckett had a couple of welcome winners recently, is 20-88 (23%) with his three-year-old runners on this course and jockey Rossa Ryan is 109-483 (23% +£15.78) when riding for Beckett.

Ryan was in the saddle at Wolverhampton, and the combination should have every chance of gaining a handy position from a low draw, and this equally tight track should suit this switch to turf.

16:45 Chester - On A Session @ 6/1

The final suggestion is ON A SESSION in the concluding Class 3 7f Handicap from Chester.

The eight-year-old is well treated on some significant course-and-distance form from last spring, arrives in promising heart after an encouraging recent third at Musselburgh, has a favourable low draw and is representing the training partnership of David and Nicola Barron that has struck form in recent days.
