Southwell Racecourse Jumps

There's a lot of racing to enjoy on Tuesday, with six UK and Irish meetings taking place. They go over obstacles at Fakenham, Ffos Las, Southwell, Hereford and Ballinrobe, while the sole flat card comes from Navan.

Among our Tuesday racing tips is one for the Nicky Henderson team that likely had a valid excuse for an off-colour effort last time.

Tuesday Racing Tips

  • 14:05 Navan - Veracidad @ 17/2
  • 19:00 Hereford - Sacchoandvanzetti @ 12/1
  • 19:42 Southwell - Fierce Warrior @ 7/2

14:05 Navan - Veracidad @ 17/2

Trainer Ken Condon will be hoping that his filly VERACIDAD can shed the maiden tag in her seasonal comeback in this five-furlong handicap.

The daughter of Cable Bay had nine starts last season as a juvenile. She was handed an opening mark of 68 after showing some promise in maidens over 7f/1m but was immediately dropped into sprinting company at Cork in July where she ran better than a finishing position of sixth (of eight) suggested.

She ran well later in a Fairyhouse claimer over 7f and signed off her season in September when beaten a length-and-a-half into third at Down Royal (5f, heavy) in a nursery.

She has been eased a further 2lb ahead of this comeback run and the booking of Billy Lee is a positive. Ground conditions should be optimal and she could well be an improver at three.

19:00 Hereford - Sacchoandvanzetti @ 12/1

Evening jumps fare also comes from Hereford and this handicap hurdle over just shy of two-and-a-half-miles can go the way of SACCHOANDVANZETTI for trainer Fergal O'Brien.

He's operating at a near 23 percent strike-rate in recent weeks and enjoyed a Bank Holiday Monday double at Kempton with new stable jockey Johnny Burke on the scoresheet.

This Irish import had three successive runner-up finishes last season after joining the Gloucestershire-based handler before his form tailed off into the winter.

After a break, he's had two spins on the all-weather to sharpen him up and he ran well for a long way before finishing third at Chelmsford 19 days ago. He is on a workable mark back jumping and looks like a key player in this 11-runner event.

19:42 Southwell - Fierce Warrior @ 7/2

A bumper winner in this month last year on his second start, the Nicky Henderson-trained FIERCE WARRIOR opened his account over hurdles at Plumpton (2m4½f, good to soft) in December, also at the second time of asking.

He appeared to get tapped for toe on his hurdles bow in a decent maiden at Market Rasen prior to that, though he split subsequent winners.

At Plumpton, he made much of the running but answered Nico de Boinville's call when needed after he was headed from three out, showing a pleasing attitude to fend off Alan King's Menaggio a week before Christmas.

The runner-up obliged on his next start and Fierce Warrior went back to Plumpton in March to try and follow up but faded late on into fifth.

That contest came on the eve of the Cheltenham Festival, where the Seven Barrows team were very much under a cloud and, so, a forgiving attitude is best.

Now from an opening mark of 110, this five-year-old is fancied to bounce back on his handicap bow in the hands of James Bowen.
