Southwell Racecourse Jumps

Jumps racing takes centre stage across the UK and Ireland on Tuesday with three meetings set to take place, backed up by one all-weather fixture.

Lingfield starts us off, before they go at Newcastle and Thurles, while Southwell’s eight-race all-weather meeting completes the day’s action.

Amongst our major fancies on Monday is one for John & Sean Quinn who looks well set to return to winning ways in Southwell’s feature Class 3 handicap.

Tuesday Racing Tips

  • 14:32 Lingfield - Eureka Creek @ 3/1
  • 15:50 Newcastle - Call Me Jack @ 3/1
  • 18:00 Southwell - Tropez Power @ 5/1

14:32 Lingfield - Eureka Creek @ 3/1

Look out for EUREKA CREEK at Lingfield as Emma Lavelle’s mare looks well set for a deserved return to the winners’ enclosure.

The daughter of Jetaway has been a consistent performer this season, finishing third or second in each of her last three starts. Those efforts have all come in a higher grade and the drop into 0-120 can facilitate a deserved return to the winners’ enclosure.

Probably the best of those efforts came in a very competitive race at Cheltenham in December, and she certainly wasn’t far behind the well handicapped Irish raider who won that day.

She then finished second at Catterick over 3m1f and was probably just outstayed by the winner in the end. It was also a fair effort from her when third behind a couple of useful geldings over course and distance in November and a repeat of that effort off a 1lb lower mark here would surely be enough to take this.

15:50 Newcastle - Call Me Jack @ 3/1

Mark Walford’s gelding CALL ME JACK showed very little in two bumpers and three starts over hurdles in novice and maiden company. It was a very different story on handicap debut at Southwell last time out.

Having gone off at 125-1, 250-1 and 250-1 in his first three runs over hurdles, it was probably telling that the money came for him that day. The five-year-old was a narrow winner at odds of 10-3 last time out and it was a drastically improved performance.

That win also came on heavy ground so the conditions here are unlikely to cause a problem. He needed every yard of the two-mile trip in order to get his head in front that day. With this in mind, the extra furlong and the stiff finish should be in his favour.

The handicapper hasn’t overreacted and a 2lb rise should be more than manageable. There should be plenty more improvement to come in this sphere and a follow up victory could well be on the cards here.

18:00 Southwell - Tropez Power @ 5/1

A two-time course and distance winner, John & Sean Quinn’s TROPEZ POWER can bounce right back to form at the Nottinghamshire track on Tuesday.

The son of Cotai Glory showed some signs of a return to form when fifth at Lingfield last time out. Whilst it was hardly a career best, it was a solid enough effort and the handicapper has given him a helping hand subsequently with a 2lb drop in the weights.

His most recent course victory came in February 2023 off a mark of 87 and his current rating is just 3lb higher. He followed that up with a cracking run at Newcastle, where he was narrowly beaten into second off 91, which is 1lb higher than his current rating.

If he can put his best foot forward here, he’s more than capable of running a massive race and a return to winning ways shouldn’t be ruled out now back at Southwell.
