Southwell Racecourse Jumps

There’s a little something for everyone on Tuesday. Southwell’s eight-race National Hunt card gets us underway and is swiftly followed by an intriguing Flat card at Leicester - while there's two all-weather meetings from Wolverhampton and Lingfield in the evening.

My Tuesday racing tips includes one for Richard Newland & Jamie Insole who has a huge chance of following up his win last time out.

Tuesday's Racing Tips

  • 14:45 Southwell - Taste The Fear @ 9/4
  • 16:03 Leicester - User Amistoso @ 11/2
  • 19:15 Lingfield - Laoisman @ 2/1

14:45 Southwell - Taste The Fear @ 9/4

TASTE THE FEAR has a fair record on heavy ground but he clearly thrives on a quicker surface, having won five times on good ground.

Richard Newland and Jamie Insole’s nine-year-old immediately turned a corner once the ground changed in April and has won both starts since. With that in mind, he’s fully expected to complete the hat-trick here.

Both of those wins came over course and distance and the latter of the two looked a tad more cosy, despite coming off a 4lb higher mark. The handicapper has responded with a 5lb rise which will make life a little harder but he should have enough in hand to get the job done.

The son of Mores Wells made all the running and had the race well in hand before idling on the run-in. That effort definitely indicated he was value for more than the winning margin suggested, which bodes well here.

16:03 Leicester - User Amistoso @ 11/2

Look out for USER AMISTOSO at Leicester as the Michael Bell-trained three-year-old has shaped like a winner in-waiting. The son of Wootton Bassett represents the same connections as Derby runner-up Ambiente Friendly and Callum Shepherd takes the ride.

He was a little disappointing on handicap debut at Newmarket on his seasonal reappearance but he was entitled to improve for both the experience and the run.

It was a much improved effort when dropped into 0-82 company at Chester next time and he was only beaten by a length back in third. There was plenty to like about the run and the best is undoubtedly yet to come.

That was a very competitive race and he experienced some traffic problems at a key stage which certainly did him no favours. The first three home were well clear of the rest and it surely won’t be long before User Amistoso sheds his maiden tag.

19:15 Lingfield - Laoisman @ 2/1

LAOISMAN is bidding to defend his unbeaten record on the all-weather, having won both of his starts on artificial surfaces. This progressive gelding was denied by the narrowest of margins when runner-up at Windsor last time out.

A stumble just before the line was the difference and he can gain compensation here on his first start over the minimum trip. Robert Havlin is on board once again and the veteran jockey has ridden him to success three times before.

His form picked up from September onwards and he has continued on an upward trajectory since. Up 2lb for that latest effort, he should still have something in hand on the handicapper and he looks fully capable of winning more races.
