Southwell Racecourse Jumps

There's plenty of racing action in store across Tuesday, with four UK and Irish meetings to look forward to.

The afternoon is dominated by jumps fare, with Limerick, Chepstow and Newcastle all featuring, before the evening all-weather card comes from Southwell.

We have a trio of contenders to look out for, including Lady In Havana for Hollie Doyle on the evening card at Southwell.

Tuesday's Daily Racing Tips

  • 19:00 Southwell – Lady In Havana @ 14/1
  • 14:10 Chepstow - Haston Clermont @ 7/2
  • 20:30 Southwell – Femme Patronne @ 20/1

19.00 Southwell – Lady In Havana @ 14/1

Hollie Doyle and David Loughnane team up with LADY IN HAVANA in this seven-furlong handicap contest on the evening card at Southwell and the filly could be ready to land her second success at the Nottinghamshire circuit.

The former Amy Murphy inmate got on the board for the first time in her stable bow over six-furlongs here in December, overhauling a subsequent winner in Badosa in the closing stages as she did.

She has finished in the frame in both runs here since that, either side of a slightly sub-par effort at Newcastle at the start of January.

The three-year-old filly is just 4lb above her previous win-mark now and, with still a few miles on the clock, can improve for this step up in trip and bag another Southwell success.

14:10 Chepstow – Haston Clermont @ 7/2

Trainer Noel Williams will have confidence that HASTON CLERMONT can land a treble in the Chepstow Summer Sessions Handicap Chase.

The Irish import ran well in a bumper at this course in December 2022 on his Rules bow, finishing fourth, though he would make little impact in three hurdles starts afterwards.

It has been a different story since he returned from his summer break to go chasing, particularly as his stamina has been fully tested.

He ran well at Plumpton (2m3½f, good to soft) in November and has built on that with wins at Lingfield (2m7½f, good to soft) and Wincanton (3m1f, heavy) in December and earlier this month in his two starts since.

Johnny Burke's partner moved ominously well in that most recent win and held off the eventual runner-up in good style after they'd drawn clear.

Heavy ground is forecast here and will pose no problems for Haston Clermont, who looks to have the necessary ability to defy his latest 6lb rise in the ratings.

20:30 Southwell - Femme Patronne @ 20/1

The nightcap at Southwell is a handicap over a mile-and-three-furlongs and FEMME PATRONNE might be worth chancing at big odds for the Karl Burke team.

The mare is 0-5 in this sphere having twice finished second in bumpers at Huntingdon and Newcastle to launch her career.

She has taken a while to get going on the synthetics but her most recent effort saw her finishing second at Newcastle over a mile-and-a-quarter in first-time cheekpieces under claiming rider Brandon Wilkie for the first time.

The extra yardage now should be a positive and she races from an unchanged mark. She is still unexposed at this trip and can outrun her odds in this Betfred Extra Place Race (four places).
