Britain provides all four meetings on Tuesday, with two National Hunt and two Flat fixtures to keep us entertained. Catterick kicks us off and is swiftly followed by Bangor and Chepstow, while Newcastle’s nine-race all-weather card takes us through the evening.

My horse racing tips for the afternoon includes one for Paul Nicholls that has the potential to go far in novice hurdles this season.

Horse Racing Tips - Tuesday, October 29

  • 13:30 Chepstow - Quebecois @ 5/4
  • 15:10 Chepstow - Theformismighty @ 4/1
  • 15:22 Catterick - Hour By Hour @ 15/8

13:30 Chepstow - Quebecois @ 5/4

Connections went to £320,000 to snap up QUEBECOIS after he finished second by a length in an Irish point at Castlelands back in March 2023.

A big price tag comes with some lofty expectations and he was successful in an Exeter bumper on his rules debut in December.

The form probably doesn’t amount to much, but he left a very good visual impression and this scopey individual is an impressive sight to behold.

Whilst connections probably would have hoped for better in the Champion Bumper, he was always going to be better over further with some obstacles in front of him.

This extended 2m3f looks like a good starting point over hurdles, although he’s probably more of an Albert Bartlett type further down the line.

The yard’s recent form is a slight concern, but this gelded son of No Risk At All can get the stable up and running for the season.

Chasing is going to be his game next season, but he should be more than capable of making his presence felt in the hurdling division for the time being.

13:30 Chepstow - Winner Quebecois

15:10 Chepstow - Theformismighty @ 4/1

The Dan Skelton yard has been amongst the winners of late and they’ll be on the hunt for further success at Chepstow. THEFORMISMIGHTY is set to make his debut over the larger obstacles here and there could be any amount of improvement to come.

An impressive winner of a maiden hurdle at Market Rasen in March, the form of that 15-length success has worked out well, with a couple of the horses in behind having come out and won since.

He only made his handicap debut in a fair race at Ayr in April and was far from disgraced back in fourth.

Surely Skelton’s seven-year-old is entitled to improve for the experience and there should be loads of room to manoeuvre with this handicap mark of 118.

15:10 Chepstow - Winner Theformismighty

Odds correct at time of publishing.

15:22 Catterick - Hour By Hour @ 15/8

HOUR BY HOUR has been dropped in grade here, despite winning a 0-90 recently, and Iain Jardine’s runner could well be the one to side, even though the handicapper has responded with a 6lb rise.

This could prove to be a shrewd bit of placement and the horse couldn’t be in better form, having won three of his last four starts.

It often pays to be up with the pace at Catterick, as it’s hard to come from behind at this very sharp track.

This four-year-old was an impressive winner when making virtually all of the running in a Class 3 at Haydock last time out and should be capable of following up on that evidence.

That aforementioned success came on heavy ground and the soft going here at Catterick won’t slow him down, especially as the son of Time Test has a fair record on soft as well.
