There are four race meetings scheduled on Tuesday across Britain and Ireland, with a mix of jumps and all-weather action in store.

I've got a trio of horse racing tips for the day's action - including a promising mare for Jonjo & AJ O'Neill aiming to record a second win over hurdles.

Horse Racing Tips - Tuesday, January 28

  • 12:50 Newcastle - Amelia's Star @ 5/6
  • 14:15 Chepstow - Rula Bula @ 5/1
  • 20:00 Wolverhampton - State Of Madness @ 3/1

12:50 Newcastle - Amelia's Star @ 5/6

A mares' bumper opens proceedings at Newcastle and AMELIA'S STAR should have leading claims for the David Killahena & Graeme McPherson training alliance.

She finished second on debut at Wetherby in November, ceding both experience and first run to the well-backed winner Queenofthejukebox for Noel Williams.

The winner made a decisive move early in the home straight and was strong through the line in maintaining her advantage, and has since run with credit in the Listed Alan Swinbank Mares' bumper at Market Rasen this month.

Amelia's Star had plenty of ground to make up at Wetherby and while never threatening the winner, she was clear of the remainder and can go a place better here under Brian Hughes.

14:15 Chepstow - Rula Bula @ 5/1

The Albert Bartlett Triple Crown Series Handicap Hurdle went the way of progressive Cuthbert Dibble last season for the Nigel Twiston-Davies team and RULA BULA could be another with better things to come now for Jonjo & AJ O'Neill with Jonjo Jr on board.

The mare won stylishly at Market Rasen (2m4½f, good) in November and was quickly given her chance in Listed company at Newbury where she was second behind the Dan Skelton-trained Listentoyourheart, with Jubilee Alpha right behind in third for Paul Nicholls.

The Ditcheat inmate is 2-2 since, including when avenging that defeat by Listentoyourheart in another Listed event at Taunton over Christmas.

Rula Bula has been given a rating of 122 for this handicap debut and she could prove a good bit better than that in time.

20:00 Wolverhampton - State Of Madness @ 3/1

Sprint fare over the 6f trip at Wolverhampton and a contest in which STATE OF MADNESS could belatedly open his account for trainer Derek Shaw and Joanna Mason.

The Washington DC gelding is a maiden of 11 starts now but has knocked on the door a couple of times over 5f around here this winter from a declining mark.

He was second behind a useful barometer in Alafdhal at this venue eight days ago, closing late on but unable to prevent Phil McEntee's charge notching an eighth all-weather success.

The pair were clear and on that evidence, from this unchanged mark, this four-year-old could be good enough to make his mark back up in trip.
