Horse Racing Tips: Rose can bloom again on Tuesday

Exeter races scaled

The Flat season is waning now that Champions Day is out of the way, but with just one Jumps fixture on Tuesday racing on the level still holds sway. We've got action from the Curragh, Yarmouth and Exeter in the afternoon, before Newcastle’s all-weather card takes us through the evening.

One of my horse racing tips on Tuesday is a Joe Tizzard runner in Exeter’s feature race that should be capable of running a big race on her seasonal debut.

Horse Racing Tips - Tuesday, October 22

  • 13:30 Curragh - Giselle @ 4/6
  • 16:28 Exeter - Rose Of Arcadia @ 9/2
  • 16:45 Yarmouth - Balmoral Lady @ 13/8

13:30 Curragh - Giselle @ 4/6

The Group 3 Staffordstown Stud Stakes is the feature race on the Curragh’s card and Aidan O’Brien trains 33 per cent of the field. He has also won six of the last 10 renewals of this race and looks well set to win it again with GISELLE this year.

Ryan Moore heads over to the Curragh for three rides and one would imagine that Giselle is the main reason for that. She has had just two starts thus far and her profile suggests further progress could be on the cards.

Second to stablemate Bedtime Story on debut at Leopardstown in June, that was a fine effort as the winner went on to win the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot by a freakishly wide margin.

The result was never in doubt when getting off the mark here over 7f next time and the official winning margin doesn’t truly reflect the cosiness of that success.

This daughter of Frankel is out of a dual Group 1 winner who stayed a mile well and it’s unlikely that this trip will be beyond her.

If she wins well here, the Breeders’ Cup could be on the agenda next and she would be attempting to follow in the footsteps of her dam.

13:30 Curragh - Winner Giselle

16:28 Exeter - Rose Of Arcadia @ 9/2

Joe Tizzard’s ROSE OF ARCADIA could be one to watch at Exeter on Tuesday as she has a pretty solid record over fences and was victorious on her penultimate start in a slightly warmer race at Sandown in March.

She got the better of the useful Ballygrifincottage that day and showed a terrific attitude to outstay her rivals by three-quarters-of-a-length. Currently on just a 3lb higher mark, it’s likely that she can be competitive once again and the excellent conditional Freddie Gingell takes 3lb off.

This nine-year-old goes on almost any ground and good to soft will be fine, as she’s won on it twice before. Stamina is the name of her game and she has only failed to finish in the first three twice in 11 starts between 2m7f and an extended 3m2f.

Her recent first-time out record also stands out, as she won her first start of the season in each of her last two campaigns. We can expect her to be pretty ready for this excursion with that in mind and we’re predicting a big run.

16:28 Exeter - Winner Rose Of Arcadia

16:45 Yarmouth - Balmoral Lady @ 13/8

There are two hat-trick seekers amongst the field in this interesting 5f handicap and, of the two, Ed Walker’s BALMORAL LADY makes the most appeal.

She only made her debut back in April but has already managed to win three times this season. It was a game performance on handicap debut at Haydock as she managed to get off the mark and her subsequent runs have indicated that 5f is her trip.

Returning to winning ways at Bath on her penultimate start, the soft ground here will be no issue as she’s unbeaten in two starts on heavy.

Walker’s filly was particularly impressive at Windsor under Hollie Doyle last time out and a similar effort should facilitate further success, as a 6lb penalty shouldn’t be enough to stop her on the evidence of that effort.

16:45 Yarmouth - Winner Balmoral Lady
