Flat racing holds sway across Britain on Tuesday, with three meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

First off is Pontefract before they go to Ludlow and Wolverhampton. Amongst our Tuesday fancies is one for trainer Harry Derham, who has found a golden opportunity now tackling handicap company.

Tuesday Racing Tips

  • 16:00 Ludlow - Balhambar @ 13/8
  • 16:30 Ludlow - Iskandar Pecos @ 8/11
  • 18:30 Wolverhampton - Unico @ 11/1

16:00 Ludlow - Balhambar @ 13/8

Formerly trained by Michael Bell over jumps and on the Flat, BALHAMBAR was sent off a well backed horse on his first start for Harry Derham last month, and although he only managed third, it was a very encouraging run and he can build on that now in the 2m handicap hurdle.

He was no match for Lexie's Moon and Wilful on the day at Huntingdon, but the latter went on to win a Fontwell maiden hurdle by 28 lengths to boost the form. Rated as high as 85 on the Flat, an opening handicap hurdle mark of 100 should be very workable, and despite having the burden of 12 stone, he could be a class apart.

Balhambar's sole win came on the Flat on good to firm ground so he probably wouldn't want it too testing, but he does handle soft just fine. Derham doesn't venture to Ludlow too often but he has found a good opportunity for his runner here.

16:30  Ludlow - Iskandar Pecos @ 8/11

Moving on to the 2m4f Open Hunters' Chase, a race where Miss Hannah Roach's ISKANDAR PECOS should take all the beating. When betting on a race of this nature, it's worth remembering that the jockeys are amateur, so expectations can be limited.

However, this horse has a lovely profile for a race of this nature. The multiple-point winner finished his race off with a wet sail when an unlucky second over 2m6f at Haydock in February, but the change of tactics worked a treat when making all from the front to win at Leicester over 2m4f by 14 lengths when last seen.

Iskandar Pecos has to concede weight to all of his rivals, but he's racing against some exposed types. He has a progressive profile and should be well up to backing his Leicester win up.

18:30 Wolverhampton - Unico @ 11/1

The final selection of the day comes on the all-weather in the 6f handicap for fillies, and a chance is taken on Marco Botti's UNICO to bounce back from a tame effort when last seen at Southwell last week.

She was very weak in the betting on that occasion, but a repeat of her third here over 7f last month behind Twirler would bring her right into the reckoning.

Unico doesn't seem to see out 7f that well, so dropping back to 6f should be helpful. She's effectively running off 4lb lower than her Wolverhampton effort if you factor in the rider's claim, and her sole victory came over this trip at Chelmsford.
