Lingfield park racecourse

Jump racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Tuesday with five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening. First off is Lingfield Park before they go to Carlisle, Limerick, Fakenham and Southwell.

Amongst our Tuesday fancies is one for trainer Ben Brookhouse who is starting to become really well treated on the all-weather and might be poised to strike stepping back up to a mile.

Today's Horse Races

12:40 Lingfield Park - Tactical Control @ 18/1

Never really on terms when last seen finishing sixth of nine runners over 7f at Wolverhampton, Ben Brookhouse's TACTICAL CONTROL will appreciate the step back up in trip and rates as a bet in the 1m handicap for horses rated 0-60.

The three-year-old's sole victory came in a 1m Salisbury handicap off a mark of 63 on good to firm ground back in August, a race where he was given a more forceful ride on the day, and hopefully a change of tactics are employed here.

Since then, Tactical Control's form has regressed and he has mostly been seen on an artificial surface, but now down to a mark of just 59, he has to be of interest, and he wasn't beaten all that far when last seen. In fact, it was one of his better recent runs.

Aided by a good 3lb claimer in Luke Catton, hopefully he can strike from a lenient mark.

13:10 Lingfield Park - Silver Nightfall @ 5/1

Jim & Suzi Best's SILVER NIGHTFALL was no match for the progressive Umbria at Kempton this month but it's unlikely she will face anything of that calibre in this 1m2f handicap and she looks set to go one better.

Sean Dylan Bowen, who is having a whirlwind year in the saddle, takes the ride and his 3lb claim is like gold at present. The daughter of Adaay had been progressing in defeat before gaining her first victory of the year over a mile at Chelmsford last month.

Stepping up three furlongs last time, she was given a very patient ride and the winner was given a very soft lead out in front and was never for catching. Nonetheless, Silver Nightfall was a comfortable second, staying on strongly at the death. There's more to come from her.

18:00 Southwell - Sommelier @ 9/1

SOMMELIER was last seen finishing well down the field in a Royal Ascot handicap, but nothing drawn 20 or higher finished in the first seven on the day, so maybe that run can be excused. He's worth chancing in the 6f handicap.

There's also a chance he's a better horse on the all-weather. He's 2-5 on an artificial surface and that includes a Kempton win when demolishing the field by over eight lengths over this trip last November.

Second to Group 1 winner Big Evs in Listed company at York in May, a repeat of that could well be good enough despite having the burden of top weight.
