We have a fairly quiet Tuesday on our hands this week, with just three meetings taking place across Britain and no Irish representation. Wetherby is the first meeting to kick off and it’s swiftly followed by Exeter, with Wolverhampton’s eight-race all-weather card taking us through the evening.

We have three strong fancies to follow on Tuesday and among them is a very lightly raced Emma Lavelle runner who should be getting off the mark sooner rather than later, and this could be the day, with Harry Cobden booked for the ride.

Horse Racing Tips - Tuesday, March 18

  • 15:35 Wetherby - De Tellers Fortune @ 7/4

15:35 Wetherby - De Tellers Fortune @ 7/4

Watch out for the Nicky Henderson-trained DE TELLERS FORTUNE here, as it’s easy to forgive his most recent performance and the six-year-old looked progressive before that.

His jockey reported that he was never travelling and that performance isn’t an accurate reflection of his ability.

This son of Soldier of Fortune made a winning start to his chasing career at Taunton in December, showing a good attitude to come out on top.

That was his first attempt over as far as 2m7f and he saw the trip out well, looking very strong at the line. Conditions were too soft for him at Warwick last time out and the return to a sounder surface here is a big positive.

16:27 Exeter - The Long Point @ 9/4

THE LONG POINT switched hands for £60,000 after finishing third in an Irish point at Boulta in November 2023 and Grade 1-winning novice hurdler Potters Charm was back in second that day.

Emma Lavelle’s gelding didn’t take long to get up and running, as he won a Huntingdon bumper on good ground on his debut under rules. Always prominent, he took up the running with two furlongs to go and pulled nicely clear to score by just shy of five lengths.

With that in mind, he was probably a little disappointing in his first couple of starts over hurdles. He wasn’t beaten too far, finishing fourth on both occasions, but you might have hoped for a little bit more.

It was an improved effort on handicap debut at Kempton last month, finishing second to a well handicapped winner and he was well clear of the third.

The handicapper has responded with a 3lb rise which is perhaps a little harsh but the best is surely yet to come.

17:02 Exeter - Tactical Affair @ 6/1

Warren Greatrex’s TACTICAL AFFAIR won a maiden hurdle in Ireland when trained by Gordon Elliott but hasn’t really come on from that.

His first start for current connections was a decent effort, as he finished second in a novice hurdle at Warwick under a penalty.

He looked in need of the run when making his first start over fences at Lingfield in November, but the form of that race has worked out pretty well, with several subsequent winners coming out of it.

The six-year-old kept on well enough to finish fourth at Fontwell last time out, despite never really threatening the principals, and the handicapper has dropped him 3lb since.

There’s scope for improvement over fences and he looks well treated enough to be bang in the mix.

This is an Extra Place Race, meaning that Betfred will be paying 3 Places (1/5 Odds) instead of 2.
