Horse Racing Tips: 11/4 chance can prove A Major Payne in rivals’ sides

Five meetings are scheduled across the afternoon and into the evening. First off is Market Rasen, before they go at Yarmouth, Punchestown, Leicester and Newcastle.

Among our horse racing tips for Tuesday is one for trainer Michael Bell who could be well up to winning on his return to action.

14:58 Leicester - Freak Encounter @ 4/1

A low-grade nursery handicap over the mile to get our selections underway, but Jamie Osborne's FREAK ENCOUNTER should be up to the job in the hands of Saffie Osborne off a basement mark.

The son of Dandy Man has improved for the step up in trip of late and was impressive when third at Yarmouth over this trip last month, in front with over 100 yards to go but just unable to quicken in the latter stages.

Next time at Southwell he was an even bigger eye-catcher. Very slowly into stride, he had to exert a lot of energy to force his way up near the leaders and that cost him, but he ran on well into third. This represents a drop in grade again and he has a leading chance.

Juddmonte's daughter of Kingman Arolla won in style on her debut at Ffos Las in July on good ground, but she has a winner's penalty and will now encounter soft or heavy conditions so the landscape is different for her in the 7f novice.

With that in mind, it might be worth taking her on with A MAJOR PAYNE, who hasn't been seen since May, but he relished heavy ground when second at Windsor on his second start when only finding Galyx too strong on the day.

Galyx has since won a handicap off a mark of 80 this month to give the form a welcome boost, while the fifth and sixth have both won since, too.

We know the selection will handle conditions and, if he's fit after a break, he could take some beating.

16:30 Leicester - Alzahir @ 8/11

Although 10 runners are set to go to post for the 7f seller, there should only be one winner and that's Jennie Candlish's ALZAHIR, who is clear on ratings and only has to run close to his mark to win.

With an official rating of 89, the son of Sea The Stars is 12lb clear of the next highest rated, Classy Boy, but he gets 6lb from that one, so it really does look like a fantastic opportunity for him to win again.

He won a couple of times for the Gosdens and was then winless for David O'Meara, but Candlish won this contest last year with Spirit Genie and there's every chance she will have aimed this boy at this too.
