York Racecourse

There are six scheduled meetings across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. They race at Ffos Las and York in the afternoon. The four evening meetings are from Bath, Sligo, Tipperary and Perth.

We have three Wednesday fancies to follow including a middle-distance handicapper under Saffie Osborne at York, representing her father Jamie.

Wednesday Racing Tips - May 15

  • 14:15 York - Flash Bardot @ 15/2
  • 14:30 Ffos Las - Three Cliffs Bay @ 6/1
  • 17:20 York - Wahraan @ 6/1

14:15 York - Flash Bardot @ 15/2

The first suggestion is FLASH BARDOT in the Class 2 1m3f Handicap from York.

The four-year-old is a progressive daughter of Sixties Icon, who has won four handicaps over a similar trip since July 2023 rising 23lb in the ratings.

The wins came at Epsom, Newbury, Catterick and Doncaster, the latest success on her April reappearance.

She achieved a peak Racing Post Rating of 97 on that occasion and the best comparative winning time on the whole Doncaster card warranting a Topspeed figure of 87, suggesting her new mark of 93 may still underestimate her as she is still improving.

A 14-runner handicap at York on ground likely to have eased come post time should suit.

14:30 Ffos Las - Three Cliffs Bay @ 6/1

THREE CLIFFS BAY is worth backing in the Class 4 2m Handicap Hurdle at Ffos Las.

The Jukebox Jury gelding had some promising bumper form on soft ground including over this course and distance and he registered his first success in a Class 4 novice contest over this course and distance in November 2023.

Steel Ally and Davidoc ran second and fourth in that contest. Steel Ally is now rated 134 over hurdles and the about 14-length fourth Davidoc went close off 108 at Warwick recently.

The selection features off a mark of 110. He is 4lb lower than when fifth of nine in a Class 2 handicap hurdle on soft ground at Haydock in March. The winner Brentford Hope is now rated 8lb higher after an excellent second of 24 in a Listed handicap hurdle at the Punchestown festival.

Three Cliffs Bay is going to appreciate the return to Ffos Las, dropping significantly in class, and should go particularly well for the notable Evan Williams and Adam Wedge trainer and jockey combination after a small break.

17:20 York - Wahraan @ 6/1

WAHRAAN makes significant appeal in the 20-runner Class 4 1m4f Handicap at York on Wednesday.

Saffie Osborne and her father Jamie combined to winning effect through Blacklion on the all-weather at Kempton recently and they team up with Wahraan, who won twice over 1m2f when aged three and trained by Sir Michael Stoute, including off a 4lb higher mark on Newmarket's July course in July 2021.

The 82-rated gelding ran to a Racing Post Rating of 96 when third over this trip at Newmarket in August 2022.

He was returning from a 432-day break on his stable debut when seventh of seven at Wolverhampton in December, but showed a bit more at Southwell in March, and much more when reaching a close third at Windsor last month despite a poor start.

The son of Le Havre has excellent claims if building further on that effort aided by a more prominent beginning from a favourable draw.
