Thursday Racing Tips: Lagoon can flow round the Roodee

An even mix of flat and jumps racing takes place this Thursday, with action on the flat coming from Chester, Brighton and Chelmsford, whilst jumps racing takes place at Huntingdon, Tipperary and Stratford.
We’ve got two fancies for you today, including one in the Listed Dee Stakes, which sometimes throws up a derby type. Check out Thursday's Horse Racing Tips below.

14:35 - Chester - Calla Lagoon @ 13/2
Chester is typically Aidan O’Brien’s playground, as he usually dominates the Derby and Oaks trials. He has won this race seven times in the last 10 years, including the last three renewals.
O’Brien runs two here, with the standout being Mount Kilimanjaro. He won just one of his four starts as a two-year-old, but it was in a valuable race in France, and he followed that up with a second-place finish in a Group 1.
However, his first run as a three-year-old was a real disappointment, going off as a 1/4 favourite at Dundalk and finishing third.
O’Brien’s runners do typically come on for their seasonal reappearance, but you would still have expected to see much more. His best juvenile form came on soft ground, so he may not be suited by the quick conditions at Chester.
He looks worth taking on, and the Ralph Beckett-trained Calla Lagoon appears the standout among his rivals.
We’ve yet to see him this season, but his two-year-old form is fairly strong.
He did very well to win on his second start, nearly getting blocked in and only just finding a gap. There would have been plenty of excuses for him had he not got his head in front, but he toughed it out and won.
He only managed second next time out in a Listed contest, but finished well clear of the rest and stayed on well enough to suggest the step up in trip will suit.

17:10 Brighton - Mehmo @ 4/1
A veteran of 72 races, Mehmo had been flirting with the winners enclosure throughout the winter on the all weather, but never managed to find himself in front.
He’s back on the turf now and if he can continue in this good form, will have an excellent chance at Brighton.
One thing for certain is that he is well handicapped for the turf, with his current mark of 52 being lower than all four of his previous race-winning marks on the surface (55,56,61,62).
He could be worth backing on that basis alone.
