13:45 Huntingdon - Jax Junior @ 11/8

Over at Huntingdon, some useful prospects go to post for the Sidney Banks listed novices’ hurdle, with Lucy Wadham’s JAX JUNIOR taken to enhance his Cheltenham Festival credentials.

Having been well beaten on his hurdles debut in November, the son of Jacks Hobbs was given a break and underwent wind surgery before returning with two deeply impressive wins in novice company. The latest of which resulted in a 17-length romp under a penalty at Ascot.

He is top rated in this company and looks one to keep firmly on side. Market rival Califet En Vol is entitled to plenty of respect, too, having chased home subsequent Grade 1 winner The New Lion last time.

18:00 Southwell - Transparent @ 5/6

Tom Ward’s TRANSPARENT looks up to defying a penalty in the 1m novice stakes at Southwell.

The Son of Mehmas was supported in the market on debut and shaped with plenty of promise to finish second behind a more experienced rival, with the third-placed runner boosting the form by winning next time.

Given time to recover from that debut, he returned to break his maiden at Kempton in January, again the form boosted by the subsequent victory of the third-placed runner.

Strong at the finish, he should relish this step up to a mile. While the form of the Tom Ward yard is a plus, operating at a 40% strike rate over the last two weeks.

Quickly could be his biggest danger, given he showed up well on his debut over course and distance in a good looking contest. However, he is now four and must give away weight to the selection.

18:30 Southwell -  Northern Cracksman @ 9/4

A previously frustrating sort, NORTHERN CRACKSMAN finally got off the mark at the 15th attempt and has a good chance of following up here.

He had been shaping as in top form without getting much luck in running before recording a comfortable success at Newcastle. A 5lb rise in the weights for that victory appears fair, while the form has since been boosted by the subsequent win of the second-placed runner.
