Horse Racing Tips: Two from Listowel on Thursday

Flat racing holds sway in Britain and Ireland on Thursday with five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening. First off is Perth before they go to Newmarket, Pontefract, Listowel and Southwell.

My horse racing tips for Thursday involves two from the Harvest Festival at Listowel.

16:05 Listowel - Say It So @ 3/1

The Listowel Harvest Festival is nearly the Cheltenham Festival for Limerick-based handler Eric McNamara and the Rathkeale native seems to be throwing nearly everything in his yard at this week's meeting.

He has a couple of strong chances on Thursday's card, including SAY IT SO in this 2m handicap hurdle. McNamara also runs Ifitwasme, so the market could provide some clues with regard to their chances.

Say It So has been in great form all year over hurdles and on the Flat, getting off the mark over jumps over the extended 2m2f at Cork last month, coming from the rear to get on top close home.

This will be trickier on a sharper track over shorter giving his style of running, but he was a good second on the Flat at Killarney since and he should be involved in the finish.

17:45 Listowel - Spare Chips e/w @ 12/1

Before any of his runners on Wednesday, Richard O'Brien has a formidable record at Listowel in the last five years, saddling three winners, a second and a third from five runners in that time.

He's well able to ready one for a bumper and, with that in mind, SPARE CHIPS has to be of interest in the finale.

The son of Almanzor is a half-brother to plenty of winners on the Flat and also to Steppenwolf, who was a 2m3f hurdle/chase winner in Ireland. His dam was a winner on the Flat too and there's a chance he could be quite good.
