Horse Racing Tips: The Sun could be out at Wexford

There is plenty of competitive action to get stuck into on Thursday afternoon with a total of seven cards, five on the Flat and two over jumps.
Here, we have a selection on the level as well as a couple of picks from Wexford’s bumper eight-race jumps card where all the races have attracted full fields. The picks include a recent winner who might be able to obtain an uncontested lead.
Horse Racing Tips - Thursday, July 25
16:25 Wexford - Sunchart @ 5/2
Earlier on the Wexford card, Sunchart arrives fit for this maiden hurdle having had a Flat campaign already this year and that included a Listed success at the start of the Flat season at Naas in March.
That was an overdue win (a first since 2019) but he’s often highly tried in deep races at Pattern level so that record is perhaps worth forgiving.
The son of Teofilo made a really promising start to his hurdle career last season, finishing fourth in a Punchestown maiden hurdle behind the likes of Sa Fureur (subsequent Grade 3 winner), Stuzzikini (Punchestown Festival winner) and Bialystock (dual hurdle winner since) and five others from that contest have been successful since. His subsequent run at Thurles also worked out nicely.
If he returns at the same level, he could be hard to beat and there’s a decent chance there’s more to come from him here so he’s well worth chancing for a yard in flying form.
17:35 Wexford - A Mere Bagatelle @ 9/1
The Ladies Handicap Hurdle looks like one of the most competitive races across the whole card and it’s a race that Jody Townend has won two of the last three renewals of.
She has solid claims of landing another one with a good ride on Schiehallion who has shaped with promise in a couple of handicap hurdles so far but there’s a solid chance this one will be well found in the market and it’s worth looking for an each-way alternative.
The one that appeals most is A Mere Bagatelle. She won a handicap chase from a 9lb higher rating at Killarney in May and bounced back from a lesser effort over fences when third in a handicap hurdle at Killarney just one week ago.
That was a solid effort from the front and one thing that makes her interesting here is the potential for her to get an uncontested lead and boss the race on the front end.
With the ground in his favour over his optimum trip, he may be capable of hitting the frame, with four places currently on offer with Betfred.
20:15 Newbury - Niloufar @ 15/8
The highly progressed Niloufar makes plenty of appeal at Newbury tonight.
The three-year-old didn’t show much in maidens but her form has taken a real upward turn since switching to handicaps back in March and her improvement has also coincided with stepping up in trip from sprinting to middle distances.
After winning her first two handicap starts on all-weather, she’s continued her progress on turf and she’s 2lb well in despite carrying a 6lb penalty for her latest success at Chepstow; that could make her hard to beat.
This is an Extra Place Race, so Betfred will be paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 Odds.
