15:55 Newton Abbot - Sergeant Fury @ 9/4

The Harry Derham-trained Sergeant Fury has already notched up a hat-trick this season and reappears off just 2lb higher here.

That most recent victory came in a low-key affair with just two runners, and he was never going to be punished harshly by the handicapper given the lack of substance to the form.

Even so, he did exactly what was required to land the hat-trick. He has been sent off a short price for all three of his wins and has justified that market confidence with comfortable performances.

This is a more competitive race than those he has contested recently, but he’s a progressive five-year-old improving faster than the handicapper can catch him, and another success at a familiar track looks well within reach.

17:45 Newcastle - Synergism  @ 7/4

The Racing League heads up north to Newcastle for week five, and the East have been enjoying plenty of success in this competition. They have a good chance of winning the opener with the Sir Mark Prescott-trained Synergism.

This is a textbook Prescott horse as he started out in handicaps up in trip from a low mark. He won easily off 57 in April and has been progressing at a rapid rate as the distances have increased. Now rated 84 after four wins this season - three of them on the all-weather - he looks firmly on the up.

This will be his toughest test to date as the Racing League tends to produce competitive handicaps, but he remains unexposed and doesn’t look to have reached his ceiling yet.

20:45 Newcastle - Oriental Prince @ 11/1

Several runners in the 8:45pm have yet to run on an all-weather surface and it may pay to back a horse with experience. The four-year-old Oriental Prince boasts an excellent record of six wins from thirteen starts on the all-weather, with four of those coming here at Newcastle.

Most of those victories came earlier this season when he racked up a fine sequence of wins. His latest run at Wolverhampton was disappointing, but he was up in class and a wide draw did not help his chances. Dropping back down to Class 3, he should have a good chance.
