Chepstow races scaled

Jumps racing holds sway across the UK and Ireland on Thursday with five meetings taking place through the afternoon and into the evening.

First off is Cork, then Sedgefield, Chepstow and Ludlow, before the all-weather action at Newcastle in the evening Amongst our horse racing tips for Thursday  is one for trainer Tom Lacey, who was denied a hat-trick last time out and will look to get back to winning ways.

14:20 Chepstow - My Friend Sean @ 6/5

Tom Lacey’s MY FRIEND SEAN was unlucky not to secure his hat-trick last time out at Lingfield following back to back wins at Uttoxeter.

The gelding did a lot wrong at Lingfield that day, but ultimately put in a decent enough performance to finish third after an underwhelming display of jumping. Furthermore, the pair who finished in front of him that day have franked the form since, having both run well in a rematch over course and distance next time out.

Despite carrying the top weight burden arriving into this race at Chepstow, Lacey’s six-year-old finds himself running off the same mark as his previous outing, and with Cameron Iles claiming a handy 3lb, he should be in with every chance to get back to winning ways at the first attempt.

15:10 Sedgefield - Ballydisco @ 7/2

It seems that all runners in this competitive race have a bit to prove and will be viewing this outing as a great opportunity to do so, with the selection going to Lucinda Russell’s BALLYDISCO.

Since making the switch to Russell’s yard, Ballydisco has often ran well in defeat, remaining unable to get off the mark for his new stable. Despite being last of those who finished the race in his previous outing he wasn’t a long way beaten back in third place, and stayed on well, suggesting the step up in trip for this one should be better suited.

He’ll wear a tongue tie for the first time and will be hoping that now is as good a chance as ever to break his maiden tag over fences.

15:55 Ludlow - Ostrava Du Berlais @ 9/4

Despite a small field, this race looks to be a competitive renewal with all four runners having a bit to prove and a great opportunity to do so.

Rock House arrives off the back of a lacklustre run for the Skeltons in the Morebattle Hurdle, but this should be an easier test for him. However, this will be the first time Dan Skelton’s gelding takes to fences and therefore the selection goes to the more experienced OSTRAVA DU BERLAIS.

Venetita Williams’ mare may have just run into a better horse on the day earlier this month at Warwick when second to Lime Drop, and can build on that performance once more running off the same mark today.

Ostrava De Berlais is perhaps not the easiest to ride and often runs keenly, but she’ll enjoy the quick conditions underfoot and being the most experienced horse over fences in the race gives her a great chance of success.
