Thursday Racing Tips: Scarlet to Jet to victory at Ayr

Jumps racing holds sway across Britain on Thursday with three meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening. First off is Ayr before they go at Huntingdon and finally on the all-weather at Newcastle.
Amongst our Thursday fancies is one for trainer Nick Alexander who is a winning pointer and will improve with racing. He has what it takes to get off the mark under rules at the third attempt.
Horse Racing Tips - Thursday, January 2
12.10 Ayr - Scarlet Jet @ 9/1
With two runs under his belt under rules, there's a possibility SCARLET JET might be saved with handicaps in mind as he will qualify for a mark after this run, but he certainly has the ability to figure here if he's at his best.
Trained by Nick Alexander, the five-year-old won a Chaddesley Corbett point-to-point back in May and he needed every yard of the three miles on the day, so there's no doubt this boy is a proper stayer in the making.
He was doing his best work at the finish when fourth of 10 runners over 2m4f at Carlisle when last seen in November and a couple of winners have come out of that contest too to give the form a welcome boost.
This trip still might be on the sharp side for Scarlet Jet, but he will be finishing his race off to very good effect and there should be a decent pace to aim at. Everything looks set for a big run.

12.40 Ayr - Jony R @ 6/1
Irish-based trainer Stuart Crawford loves Ayr and it has been his most successful track in recent years. He runs several at the track on Thursday but at likely good odds, JONY R is worthy of a bet in the 2m maiden hurdle.
Irish trainers have won three of the last five runnings of this race, with Crawford winning the last two, so it's certainly a race he targets and this son of Leading Light has only seen the track once, so we don't know how much potential he has just yet.
Down the field in a bumper over course and distance on debut last April, that was a pretty hot contest and, if you take out the favourite Walking On A Dream here, it looks wide open for each-way purposes. He can improve on his hurdling bow.

13.10 Ayr - Chumlee @ 9/1
Something was amiss with CHUMLEE when he lost his position quickly turning for home and was pulled up before the last hurdle at Carlisle when last seen in March, but he's had a good break and can strike on his chasing debut.
The 10-year-old is very lightly raced for his age with just eight runs under his belt, but he's a dual winner over hurdles and is running from a fair mark on his first run in this sphere.
The market will be the best guide, but it would be no surprise to see this lad supported in the betting.
