Thursday Racing Tips: A Windsor bet that’s right up your Alley

Flat racing holds sway across the UK and Ireland on Thursday, with seven meetings dominated by the level and just one mixed card for jumping fans. First off is Dundalk, which is joined in the afternoon by Beverley, Chepstow and Salisbury. In the evening Windsor's Racing League card features, along with Tramore and Chelmsford.

Amongst our Thursday fancies is a sprinter at Windsor who swerved a £75,000 pot on Monday to race here.

15:45 Beverley - Sparkling Red @ 7/1

Apprentice jockey Rhys Elliott has made a good start to his career, recording 10 wins so far in 2024 at a 13 percent strike-rate with six of those wins coming in July.

He rides SPARKLING RED in this handicap for Michael Dods and his valuable allowance can be the catalyst this horse needs to get back among the winners.

Sparking Red has not gone on from an encouraging reappearance at Thirsk, but he was running off marks in the 80s then and is much lower now. He showed some spark in first-time cheekpieces when last seen, but struggled to see it out that day.

That was over 6f at Doncaster and a lesser test of stamina is ideal for this speedy sort. A stiff 5f like Beverley is good for him and his sliding mark can combine with Elliott's handy claim to get him off the mark for 2024.

17:00 Windsor - Alligator Alley @ 7/1

The return to form that ALLIGATOR ALLEY showed when winning at Thirsk 12 days ago had been threatened for a while and he can be backed to continue his recovery in the Racing League fixture at Windsor.

This time last year, this horse was finishing placed in good handicaps at Goodwood and York's major festivals and after that he won a Racing League race at Newcastle off 91. He is much lower in the weights now and we know that a combination of 5f and fast ground tends to bring out the best in him.

Those conditions spring up for Alligator Alley tonight. With Cieren Fallon aboard and his draw in stall five, everything's coming up positive as he bids to follow up Thirsk.

19:30 Windsor - Katey Kontent @ 4/1

The four-year-old filly KATEY KONTENT has produced two of her three career wins at Windsor, from just three starts at the track. You would fancy that she, having qualified, might have run in the big sprint final here on Monday. However, connections have wisely chosen this slightly less valuable but certainly more competitive event for her.

Katey Content arrives in good form. She was third here in July, behind the horse that finished second in Monday's series final here, then ran at Goodwood. Normally that track does not suit her more patient tactics, but she still came through to be beaten just a short head.

Clearly flying and with crack Racing League jockey Saffie Osborne aboard, Katey Kontent can enhance her course record tonight.
