Horse Racing Tips: Three to follow on Thursday

Jumps racing holds sway across the UK and Ireland on Thursday with four meetings taking place across the afternoon before an all-weather evening card.

First off is Clonmel, before they go at Newcastle, Sandown, Leicester and Chelmsford. Amongst our Thursday fancies is one in the Royal Artillery Gold Cup at Sandown.

14:05 Leicester - Hill Of Tara @ 6/4

Venetia Williams sends two runners to Leicester, including Hill Of Tara and her record at the track is worth noting.

She has a 25% career strike rate at the course and has been in flying form this season, with 45% of her 11 runners here winning.

The testing ground at Leicester often plays to her horses’ strengths and this eight-year-old should relish the conditions.

He made his chase debut in a competitive race at Bangor-on-Dee earlier this season, his only run so far, after winning four times over hurdles.

Williams’ horses tend to improve for the switch to fences and there’s every reason to think he’ll be no different..

14:50 Newcastle - Rattling Road @ 1/1

Lucinda Russell’s eight-year-old chaser Rattling Road bids to make it a treble, and should have an excellent chance, returning to the venue he won at last time out over this distance.

He was always travelling well and when they entered the home straight he was going much the best. A two-and-three-quarter-length win has seen him go up 7lb, but he won with plenty in hand and is open to further progression.

He faces just four rivals, one of whom he beat by 12 lengths last time out, so he should be winning again here.

15:05 Sandown - Farceur De Large @ 5/2

Last time out Farceu De Large finished second in the Grand Military Gold Cup in January, where he was narrowly beaten by Fil d’Ariane, who re-opposes here.

There wasn’t much between them at the finish and it’s arguable that Farceur De Large could have won had his jockey committed to the inside sooner. Hesitation in the run-in proved costly, but he should be able to make amends for that and reverse the form. .

He’ll be hoping to defend his Royal Artillery Gold Cup title, as he was a dominant winner of this race last year, comfortably beating 2022 victor Broken Halo by six lengths and justifying his 8/11 odds.
