There’s lots of racing in store on Thursday, with six UK & Irish meetings including a mix of jumps and flat racing.
The Curragh is the first stop while there are further Flat cards from Ayr and Chelmsford (AW) alongside National Hunt meetings at Tramore, Worcester and Exeter – where a new season begins in the Devon countryside.
Amongst our fancies today is Jaminoz for Jim Goldie and Sam Jones in the finale at Ayr, seeking to extend his winning streak to three as his stamina is teased out.
Thursday Racing Tips
16:00 Exeter – Pittsburg e/w @ 7/1
Trainer Ryan Potter has got Pittsburgh in excellent recent form over both hurdles and fences and another big run is anticipated as he switches to the smaller obstacles once more on the season-opening afternoon at Exeter.
He has figures of 11222 in hurdles/chases since the start of August, winning over fences at Perth and Market Rasen on good ground, before a nose second at Carlisle from this mark at the end of the month.
Last month, he was second over hurdles at Uttoxeter behind a next-time-out winner and filled the same berth in a novices handicap chase at Bangor eight days ago.
The prevailing quick ground for Exeter’s first meeting of the new season isn’t certain to suit everyone but it should be ideal for Pittsburg, who had those two August wins on good ground.
He goes back over timber rated 4lb lower and with Finn Lambert returning in the saddle and taking off a handy 5lb now and they are some value in this Betfred Extra Place Race (five places) given recent efforts.
17:00 Chelmsford – Blue Flame @ 9/4
Though yet to win since joining Stuart Williams from Ed Dunlop, recent hints suggest that Blue Flame‘s turn is looming.
He hasn’t won since April 2022 but his mark is now 12lb lower and his last two efforts have been encouraging.
He was third at Kempton over 7f late last month and then made a bold bid from the front here a week ago, only narrowly giving best to Thomas Equinas as that rival made it three wins in his last four starts.
Marco Ghiani’s partner is due a 4lb rise after this race and a replication of last week’s run over track and trip may well suffice now.
17:40 Ayr – Jaminoz @ 9/2
The final Flat race of the season at Ayr comes over 1m5f and is the longest race on this afternoon’s card at the Scottish venue. That should suit hat-trick seeking Jaminoz ideally for Jim Goldie and Sam James.
He struggled to make an impact last season, often sent off at big prices and trying a variety of trips from 5f-9f in his first season on the track before scoring in a 7f novice on heavy ground at this course on his final turf start in October.
He is back here after a brace of recent wins at Hamilton Park. They came over 1m1f (good to soft) and 1m4f (soft), with the four-year-old having plenty to spare in that most recent success 10 days ago and running through the line as if this additional furlong will be something he relishes.
He has gone up 8lb for that latest win but a mark of 63 should not prove to be a ceiling as he really begins to excel with his stamina teased out. He’s on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for Thursday’s action and is worth supporting.
