Goodwood Racecourse

It’s a rather more sedate day of racing across Britain and Ireland on Sunday with three meetings taking place across the afternoon. First off is Punchestown before they go to Perth over jumps, while the sole Flat card at Goodwood is last to get going.

Amongst our Sunday fancies is one for training partnership Gary & Josh Moore who has been hugely progressive on the all-weather and has a huge chance if he can translate that to turf.

Sunday Racing Tips - June 9

  • 14:10 Goodwood - Cephalus @ 11/2
  • 16:30 Goodwood - Hedonista @ 3/1
  • 17:05 Goodwood - Aimeric @ 7/4

Horse Racing Odds

14:10 Goodwood - Cephalus @ 11/2

Form figures which read 7977750 on turf would hardly inspire much confidence for the chances of CEPHALUS in the opening 7f handicap, but the five-year-old looks a transformed horse this year and he's worth another chance to prove himself on grass.

Trained by Gary & Josh Moore, the son of Cable Bay went on an incredible run of form on the all-weather between December and March, racking up five wins and two seconds from seven runs, including winning four in a row in the early spring. .

Cephalus went from an all-weather rating of 57 all the way up to 88 in a short space of time, but the handicapper possibly caught up with him at Chelmsford last time as he was only fourth.

However, he was slowly away on the day and didn't get a clear run so there's a chance he's still capable of winning off his current mark. He needs to prove he can be as effective on turf and if he does he has a huge chance.

16:30 Goodwood - Hedonista @ 3/1

Sticking with the horses who tend to have better form on the all-weather which might turn out to be a bonkers approach in hindsight, but HEDONISTA should prove too good for her rivals in the 2m handicap.

The Ulysses filly has scored twice on the all-weather, getting off the mark in an extended 1m4f Newcastle maiden in May of last year before notching up her second career victory in a 2m Kempton handicap in September.

Coming back from a 235-day absence, Hedonista really caught the eye in an apprentice turf handicap at Ascot last month, just failing to reach the front-running Baileys Khelstar after having a wide passage throughout.

She clearly handles grass just fine and now nudged up just 2lb with Tom Marquand booked and the addition of a tongue-tie, she has big claims.

17:05 Goodwood - Aimeric @ 7/4

Roger Varian has won four renewals of the 1m4f Listed Tapster Stakes since 2015, including the last two, and AIMERIC should be well up to enhancing his terrific record in the contest.

The son of Frankel rounded off last year with an impressive win in the Silver Cup Handicap at Beverley in September, and on his return this year he defied a mark of 102 when scoring at Lingfield last month.

Heavily backed on the day, connections expected that performance and he should be more than good enough to take this step up in class in his stride
