Horse Racing Tips: Northern to Reel rivals in late on at Fontwell

It's a quiet day on the racing front across Britain on Sunday, with two meetings taking place across the afternoon. First off is York before they go to Fontwell.

Among my horse racing tips for Sunday is a mare for trainer Olly Murphy who is having her first start for the yard and she has a likeable profile for the class of race she's running in.

13:55 Fontwell - Northern Reel @ 17/2

Trainer Olly Murphy has a brilliant 21 per cent strike-rate at Fontwell in the last five seasons and NORTHERN REEL can be expected to improve on recent showings in the 2m5½f mares' handicap hurdle.

The Irish point winner struggled under rules during spells with Anthony Charlton and Harriet Dickin, but she has had wind surgery and the change of scenery on handicap debut might ignite a big run from this girl on her first start for the stable.

Murphy is one of the best trainers around and an opening handicap mark of 81 could prove lenient if the handler works his magic, while she will sport a tongue-tie for the first time too.

This is a fairly weak race and a chance is taken that she can improve on what we have seen from her to date.

14:15 York - Make It Easy @ 15/2

Nigel Tinkler's MAKE IT EASY hasn't won a race in twelve starts but the filly has done nothing wrong in defeat of late and her turn in the winner's enclosure is coming. She can land the 5f handicap in the hands of valuable 5lb claimer Alex Jary.

She was an unlucky loser when beaten a short head into third at Bath on her penultimate start last month, rattling home from the rear. However, she met plenty of traffic, ultimately costing her in a race where the finest margins mattered.

When last seen at Chester, a track that suits a front runner, she was again held up in the rear early and had a tricky draw to contend with but was only beaten a nose by Balon D'Or.

A 3lb rise in the weights is harsh enough given she hasn't got her head in front, but it's clear she is about to strike imminently.

15:40 Fontwell - Sergeant @ 15/8

Anthony Charlton hasn't trained a winner at Fontwell from six attempts but that could all change as SERGEANT bids to follow up his recent victory in this 2m3f handicap hurdle under Sean Bowen.

Formerly trained by Milton Harris and Harriet Dickin, he built on an encouraging second at Worcester in July after a lengthy break before running out an impressive winner off a mark of 102 last month at Newton Abbot.

He's up 8lb as a result but could still be well ahead of the handicapper.
