Southwell racecourse jumps

We have an expanded five meetings of racing action taking place across the afternoon this Sunday. First off is Cork before they go at Ffos Las, Fairyhouse and Plumpton. We round the action off with seven races on the all-weather at Southwell going into the evening

Amongst our Sunday fancies is one for trainer Charlie Appleby who will be looking to make it three wins from three.

15:45 Southwell - Tremorgio @ 11/10

In his relatively short career so far, Tremorgio has shown that he has a bit of class about him.

He went into his first race at Newmarket as the second stringer for Godolphin and was not fancied much in the betting. However he caused a bit of an upset, looking well balanced when hitting the dip at the Rowley Mile and he ran on strongly in the closing stages to get his racing career off to the perfect start.

He followed that up with an eye-catching win over today's course and distance. He was much more favoured that time round, going off at a short price but duly delivered for his supporters.

He did not have it all his own way, getting caught behind two furlongs out, but he showed his class to overcome being hindered and again ran on strongly in the closing stages.

He will have to overcome the 7lb penalty today for his two wins, but his class should show through again and he has a strong chance of bringing up a hat trick of wins here.

16:55 Southwell - Wiltshire @ 11/2

At first glance Wiltshire's form looks a bit patchy to say the least, he finished down the field in the Group 3 Bengough Stakes at Ascot in October, and then finished a distant third last time out on the all-weather at Newcastle.

However, this does not reveal the entire story. Looking a bit further into his form shows that he has a very good record on the all-weather, with three wins from four and he can be forgiven for not making it four from four last time out. He got caught at the back of the field and did remarkably well to finish as close to the leaders as he did.

He has not yet run at Southwell, which is a slight concern as the tight bends can catch some horses out, but he looks to be on a fair mark and should run well again.

18:30 Southwell - Bellarchi @ 5/1

Bellarachi put a string of poor performances behind her when winning over course and distance last time out.

Having won at Southwell in April 2024 she had been campaigned predominantly on Turf with limited success and seemed to be going backward toward the end of last season when finishing way back in consecutive races at Newmarket.

She was then tried on the all-weather at Newcastle, but this did not seem to have any effect and again she finished some way back from the leaders.

However, a four-month break and a return to Southwell seemed to bring out the best in her. She broke well and got herself into a decent position early, she had to dig deep but she showed good determination to get to the line first and won well under significant pressure in the closing stages.

She has only been put up 2lb for that win and another strong performance looks likely.
