Flat racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Sunday with four meetings taking place across the afternoon.

First off is Sligo's opening meeting of the year before they go to Qipco 1,000 Guineas day at Newmarket, then Hamilton and Salisbury.

Amongst our Sunday fancies is one for trainer Dianne Sayer, who has a very consistent profile and should be well up to finding access to the winners’ enclosure once again.

Horse Racing Tips - Sunday, May 5

Opening the card at Hamilton is a competitive 1m6f handicap, and Dianne Sayer's SIMPLE STAR can gain compensation for his narrow defeat on his reappearance over 1m4f at Musselburgh last month.

Coming back from a 235-day absence, the six-year-old son of Sea The Stars was denied by Destinado in the closing stages. He stays much further than that, having gone close over 2m2f at Musselburgh in August, so the step back up in trip will help.

Simple Star was raised 2lb for his most recent effort so he now runs off a career-high mark of 77, so he's certainly far from thrown in at the weights. Nonetheless, he can definitely win off this mark and he gets lumps of weight off the entire field here as he's up in class.

Moving on swiftly to the 5f sprint handicap, and top weight CAVALIER APPROACH has big claims for trainer Edward Bethell with bang in form Connor Beasley booked for the ride.

Beasley rode three winners at Ayr on Thursday and his partner today, Cavalier Approach, should come on bundles from his respectable seventh at Southwell in March after a five-month absence.

He is a perfect two wins from two at Hamilton (over 5f and 6f) and landed a bit of a touch for connections here last September. It will be no surprise if there's plenty of market support for this boy dropping down in grade, and Bethell has a 39 per cent strike-rate here in the last five years.

17:30 Hamilton - Conquest Of Power @ SP

CONQUEST OF POWER was a hugely impressive winner over 7f at Lingfield on the all-weather on Thursday and is turned out quickly under a penalty. He can land the lucky last for backers in the hands of Tyler Heard.

The four-year-old must defy a 5lb rise in the weights back on turf, but he has won on grass in the past so he should go very well. The visor was applied for the first time when last seen and it clearly made a huge impact so it's encouraging to see it retained.

Trainer Mark Usher doesn't travel this far very often. In fact, he has only had one other runner at Hamilton in the last five years so that could signal a real sign of intent. It looks like they've found the key to this horse and he can score again.
