Horse Racing Tips: Elmalka can light up Guineas day again

It's a big day of Flat Racing in Britain with the Betfred 1,000 Guineas taking centre stage at Newmarket. There are two other British cards as well, with Hamilton kicking off the action and Salisbury following, while in Ireland, they race on the Flat at Sligo.

Among my Sunday Horse Racing Tips is one for Roger Varian, who is returning to the scene of her finest hour on 1000 Guineas day last year.

14:00 Salisbury - Anthelia @ 7/4

ANTHELIA made a winning debut last month, and there could be more to come from this daughter of Supremacy.

Supremacy won the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood before taking out the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at HQ, while her Dam, All On Red, was a winner on the all-weather at Newcastle.

Rod Millman could have something special on his hands, and the two-year-old again goes over the minimum trip on Sunday for this Fillies’ Stakes.

There was a greenness to her first run but she will have learned from that and should have too much for Richard Hannon’s Madame X, who is the half-sister of the Italian Group-placed Duc De Morny.

14:20 Newmarket - Elmalka @ 9/4

ELMALKA'S finest hour last year came when she won the Betfred 1,000 Guineas, and Roger Varian's filly might be able to get her head in front for the first time since.

You could argue she didn't quite go on after her Newmarket success, but three fourth places all came in Group 1 company, and she was not disgraced in any of them.

Her trainer believes there will be more to come from her this year and that another Group 1 is not beyond the realms of possibility, so she should be going close in this company.

The big danger ought to be Running Lion, but she has a tendency to hang when under pressure, and that is sometimes exacerbated by Newmarket's undulations, and it cost her in this race 12 months ago.

16:53 Hamilton - Ana Emeraaty @ 9/2

The closer at Hamilton is a Handicap over 1m3f and could belong to ANA EMARAATY.

Tim Easterby’s gelding landed a treble with last month’s win at Southwell, and this contest presents a perfect chance to break his duck on turf.

He could have too much for Spanish Hustle, who struggled when moving up to Class 4 company at Musselburgh on April 13, but had previously been second at the same venue and scored over slightly longer than this trip at this venue last summer.

It is a competitive heat, with Mister Daydream also a recent winner at Beverley, but there is a lot to like about Ana Emaraaty.

Three wins in four weeks is a mighty strike-rate, and with Amie Waugh retained after guiding him to glory at Southwell, a four-timer could beckon.
