Flat racing holds sway in Britain on Sunday with three meetings taking place across the afternoon. First off is Bath before they go to Wetherby and Southwell.

Amongst our Sunday fancies is one for trainer Alice Haynes, as the tip was a big eyecatcher on her first start for the yard and is capable of winning now.

Sunday Racing Tips - April 28

  • 14:30 Wetherby - Shaws Phoenix @ 10/3
  • 16:40 Wetherby - Rwenearlytheredad @ 12/1
  • 17:15 Wetherby - Filibustering @ 7/1

14:30 Wetherby - Shaws Phoenix @ 10/3

The mile handicap for horses rated 0-58 is a competitive contest on paper, but Alice Haynes' SHAWS PHOENIX could be well ahead of her mark and she is taken to land the first bet of the day under Kieran O'Neill.

The three-year-old has some interesting form in the book, including a third behind Haatem at Bath on her debut last May. That winner won the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood last year and returned with a bang in 2024 when winning the Craven Stakes at Newmarket last week.

Formerly trained by Rod Millman, Shaws Phoenix disappointed a couple of times, but rounded off last year with an eye-catching fourth at Leicester. She finished second at Yarmouth over this trip on first start for Haynes and should be well up to winning off her current mark.

16:40 Wetherby - Rwenearlytheredad @ 12/1

The form of the Declan Carroll stable would have to be a slight concern as the handler is yet to train a winner in 2024, but RWENEARLYTHEREDAD could be up to the challenge and can break the trainer's duck in the 5½f handicap.

With excuses aplenty for his two poor efforts so far this year, the son of Havana Grey might be overpriced here. He was drawn on the wrong side when down the field at Doncaster in March, while bottomless ground didn't suit at Thirsk last time out.

Drying ground would be a huge help for Rwenearlytheredad's chances here and he won three times last year over trips ranging from 5f to 7f. He still looks fairly treated and will have fitness on his side.

17:15 Wetherby - Filibustering @ 7/1

Our final selection of the day runs in the closing 1m6f handicap and Tim Easterby's FILIBUSTERING could prove far too good for her rivals on her handicap debut, especially with stable jockey David Allan booked for the assignment.

This filly was fourth behind the now 85-rated Educate in a mile novice at Southwell on the all-weather in December and she was staying on well at the death too, after a tardy start cost her a lot of ground.

She was again slowly away when down the field at that same venue when last seen, but her penultimate run makes her of huge interest here off a basement mark of 63. Considering she got within a few lengths of Educate on that occasion, she could be thrown in off her opening mark and is worth a bet.
