Horse Racing Tips: Monbeg Park can score at Leopardstown

National Hunt racing takes centre stage on Sunday, with all three of the day’s meetings across Britain and Ireland being Jumps fixtures.
Ireland’s action is provided by Leopardstown’s seven-race card and they kick us off, before racing continues at Huntingdon and Doncaster in Britain.
Amongst our Sunday fancies is one for trainer Sean Doyle in Leopardstown’s feature Listed contest, after he ran a cracker to finish third in a better race over course and distance last time out.
Horse Racing Tips - Sunday, March 2
14:00 Doncaster - Supervisor @ 13/8
Venetia Williams’ SUPERVISOR has failed to make it round in his last two starts but appeared to be making progress before unshipping his rider at the fourth-last fence when last seen at Ludlow. The 11-year-old was responding well to pressure before that happened and may well have stayed on to make the frame.
A better jump at the last would have given him every chance of returning to winning ways at Warwick prior to those two failures to finish, as he was only a length down at the time and the lost momentum cost him dearly in the end.
Positive tactics were employed when winning comfortably off a 7lb lower mark at Wincanton back in April. Making virtually all of the running that day, a good leap at the second-last sealed it and he went on to win by six lengths.
It could be worth giving this son of Flemensfirth another go off this mark and with Ned Fox taking 3lb off here, the lighter load is sure to help his chances.

15:52 Huntingdon - El Rio @ 5/6
Look out for the progressive EL RIO at Huntingdon, as Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls’ eight-year-old is blossoming over fences this season. He has won three of his four starts and appears to still be ahead of the handicapper.
His only defeat came in a thoroughly competitive novice handicap at Kempton on Boxing Day and the form has worked out well since, with the winner, El Rio and the sixth all triumphing subsequently.
That loss came in between two comfortable wins, the first of which was at Sandown in November and although the form doesn’t stand out, he was well in command on the day and a 6lb rise clearly didn’t underestimate him.
Winning a very competitive race with relative ease at Kempton when last seen, it’s hard to argue with another 7lb rise and clearly the handicapper is struggling to get to grips with this improving sort. Perhaps that will continue here and further progress can’t be ruled out.

16:02 Leopardstown - Monbeg Park @ 9/2
MONBEG PARK was competitive in graded novice chases in the autumn, finishing second by half-a-length in Grade 3 company at Punchestown in October and filling the same spot in the same grade at Cork after that.
It’s worth noting that Sean Doyle’s eight-year-old managed to beat Spillane’s Tower in his novice hurdle days and that looks like rock-solid form now. He wasn’t trying his absolute hardest when keeping on to finish third over course and distance at the Dublin Racing Festival and is clearly capable of better.
A 4lb rise isn’t ideal but it shouldn’t be too damaging to his chances and 5lb claimer Tiernan Power Roche is in the saddle once again. Monbeg Park is more than capable of running a big race and his very best form arguably makes him the one to beat.
