Fakenham races scaled

After the frills and thrills of Betfred Derby day on Saturday, it’s another busy day across Britain and Ireland on Sunday with five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.  First off is Listowel and Nottingmam on the Flat, before they go jumping at Kilbeggan and Fakenham, while the action concludes with the Sunday Series meeting Hamilton into the evening.

Amongst Sunday's racing tips is one for trainer Ray Hackett who relished the step up in trip when winning easily last time and should love a further step up in trip.

Sunday's Racing Tips - June 2

  • 14:20 Kilbeggan - Littlebiggie @ 5/1
  • 14:55 Kilbeggan - Everystep Oftheway @ 9/1
  • 16:45 Fakenham - Beholden @ 7/1

14:20 Kilbeggan - Littlebiggie @ 5/1

Ray Hackett's LITTLEBIGGIE was hammered off the boards late on for a 2m6½f maiden hurdle at Killarney last month, and the mare made all in stylish manner on the day. She could take all the beating in the 3m1f novice hurdle at Kilbeggan.

Runner-up to Aurora Vega in a Sligo bumper on her debut last June, she ran some good races in defeat over shorter trips, but the step up in distance was the key to her improvement. Now she steps up in trip again, it should only unlock more progress.

Littlebiggie will possibly only have four rivals to worry about so it's a race that should be set up very nicely for her tactically. She may drive on early and build up a nice lead and she might not be for catching again.

14:55 Kilbeggan - Everystep Oftheway @ 9/1

Moving on to the 3m1f handicap hurdle at the Midlands venue, a very competitive race where a case can be made for many, but Oliver McKiernan's EVERYSTEP OFTHEWAY could be in the answer with Philip Enright booked for the ride.

The six-year-old went close when third in a 2m3f handicap hurdle at Naas last year from a mark of 93, and he is 5lb lower in the weights now. He was a big eyecatcher last time at Punchestown when staying on from the rear to take fourth close home over three miles.

Everystep Oftheway needs a trip for sure and this extra furlong will be a big help. Blinkers and a tongue strap are both applied for the first time too which could be another pointer towards a big effort in this Betfred Extra Place Race (five places).

16:45 Fakenham - Beholden @ 7/1

The final selection of the day runs in the closing 2m4f female jockeys' handicap hurdle at Fakenham, as they draw stumps on their season at the Norfolk venue. BEHOLDEN could get a soft time of things on the front end in the hands of Tabitha Worsley, who claims a valuable 3lb.

A big eyecatcher after an absence when a close-up fifth at Wincanton behind Paddy De Pole in a 2m4f amateur jockeys' handicap hurdle, the winner came out and bolted up off a higher mark subsequently.

Beholden was behind Paddy De Pole again last time, but she ran well for a very long way and just bumped into a very progressive horse again on the day. This looks easier and she has been dropped a couple of pounds by the assessor, so everything looks set for a bold bid again.

16. 45 fakenham - beholden @ 7-1
