Flat horse racing

Jump racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Sunday with three meetings taking place across the afternoon. First off is day three of the Winter Million at Windsor before they go at Thurles and Fakenham.

Among our Sunday fancies are a trio of runners for master trainer Willie Mullins, who looks set to have a fantastic day at Thurles. Check out my Horse Racing Tips below.

Horse Racing Tips - Sunday, January 19

  • 12:55 Thurles - Inn At The Park @ 6/4
  • 13:30 Thurles - Spindleberry @ 15/8
  • 14:05 Thurles - Blood Destiny @ 5/2

12:55 Thurles - Inn At The Park @ 6/4

Paul Townend and Willie Mullins have some big chances on the card at Thurles and first up is INN AT THE PARK, who should be well up to landing the extended 2m6f novice hurdle. Third behind subsequent Champion Bumper third Jalan D'oudairies on his debut at Fairyhouse in December 2023, all five of his rivals in that contest have gone on to win at least once since.

Inn At The Park was then a close third behind stablemate Sounds Victorius in a bumper at Punchestown last February before disappointing at Clonmel to round off his campaign. The selection looked a totally different proposition on his hurdling debut when he returned at Fairyhouse last month stepped up to around 2m7f, where he travelled supremely well and won easily.

Back in third was stablemate Fishery Lane who had Townend aboard on the day, and that horse won a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse on Wednesday. Inn At The Park is Grade 1-entered and should have enough here.

13:30 Thurles - Spindleberry @ 15/8

It's going to take a good performance to beat likely favourite Only By Night who is very progressive for trainer Gavin Cromwell, but we are banking on the Mullins-trained SPINDLEBERRY to stop her in her tracks in the 2m5f Grade 2 Mares' Novice Chase.

A winner of a 2m4f maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse on heavy last January, she went on to finish runner-up behind Jade De Grugy in a Grade 1 at that venue in March, with some very classy mares behind her on the day.

Although she was far from impressive on her chasing debut at Cork last month, she still won in the end and the front two pulled well clear of the remainder. She can only improve with time.

14:05 Thurles - Blood Destiny @ 5/2

We are set for a fantastic renewal of the Grade 2 Horse & Jockey Hotel Chase over 2m5f and again it's the Townend and Mullins combination who can come out on top with BLOOD DESTINY.

Something was clearly amiss when last seen pulling up in a Listed handicap at Punchestown in May, but he made short work of the classy Spillane's Tower in a Grade 3 at Navan last March before finishing behind that rival when third in a Grade 1 at Fairyhouse.

That's easily the best form on offer here and if he's anywhere close to his best on his return, he will take some stopping.

14:05 Thurles - Winner Blood Destiny
