Horse Racing Tips: Art can paint the right picture at Ripon

Sunday is set to be a very quiet day and Flat racing takes centre stage in the UK, with both British meetings taking place on the level. Ireland’s sole meeting of the day provides the National Hunt fans with something to look forward to.
Leicester kicks us off and is swiftly followed by Ripon and Downpatrick. A lack of overall quality is compensated for by some fascinatingly competitive lower-grade action. Sunday's horse racing tips include one for William Haggas who looks well set to get off the mark on just her second handicap start.
Horse Racing Tips - Sunday, August 11
15:40 Ripon - St Pancras @ 6/4
Ripon’s feature race is a tricky 1m4f handicap for three-year-olds, but there’s one horse in particular who could still be well ahead of the handicapper. Martyn Meade’s ST PANCRAS is very lightly raced and can come out on top.
He showed little in three starts in maiden and novice company over 1m2f for Richard Hannon and the son of Siyouni made his stable and handicap debut at Pontefract last month.
It resulted in a comfortable victory, despite his previous form not indicating that he was well treated off a mark of 76. The step up to 1m4f was clearly a positive and there could be plenty more to come over this trip.
A 4lb higher mark is unlikely to cause him any problems and he looks all set to follow up. Harry Davies is yet to ride at Ripon this season but he heads up to Yorkshire just to take the mount on Meade’s colt.
14:00 Leicester - Under The Sea @ 12/1
Another handicapper going the right way is UNDER THE SEA at Leicester on Sunday. It was a much-improved effort on his handicap debut in a better race when last seen and he surely has every chance, having been dropped in the weights.
Alice Haynes’ gelding showed some promise when third in a claimer at Fontainebleau on his debut and was admittedly a little disappointing in two subsequent starts.
The switch to handicaps appears to have done the trick, however, as he was beaten only three lengths when fifth at Chester last month.
It would be unwise to rule out further improvement and a 3lb lower mark certainly isn’t going to harm his chances.
