Leicester races scaled

Jump racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Sunday with three meetings taking place across the afternoon.

First off is Fairyhouse before they go at Carlisle and Leicester. Amongst our Sunday fancies is one for trainer Deborah Cole whose stamina was stretched over 3m at Huntingdon last time out, but who might be a different force dropping back down in distance.

Horse Racing Tips - Sunday, December 1

  • 12:30 Fairyhouse - Messerschmitt @ 6/1
  • 13:05 Fairyhouse - My Immortal @ 11/2
  • 14:50 Leicester - Jac Jumper @ 5/1

12:30 Fairyhouse - Messerschmitt @ 6/1

A decent horse on the Flat with a sole win in that sphere over 1m at Thurles on debut, Noel Meade's MESSERSCHMITT came good over hurdles when last seen and can keep on improving to land the extended 2m Grade 3 Juvenile Hurdle.

He unseated his rider on his hurdling debut at Killarney in August when sent off favourite and was travelling well at the time of his departure, but he made no mistake at Galway when last seen winning a good 2m maiden hurdle.

Messerschmitt travelled notably well again on that occasion and, despite a mistake at the last flight, powered up the hill on yielding to soft ground in the manner of a very nice horse.

It wouldn't be a surprise at all to see this lad end up in the Boodles 4yo hurdle at Cheltenham in March, a race that his trainer won with Jeff Kidder in recent years. He's a solid bet in this race.

13:05 Fairyhouse - My Immortal @ 11/2

In the following 3m6f Listed Porterstown Handicap Chase, our dart has landed on Barry Connell's MY IMMORTAL. Connell and Michael O'Sullivan parted ways this week and Sean Flanagan is now the number one rider for the yard.

Flanagan is a very polished rider and brings years of experience to the job, so it's not a bad move at all and this horse won't have to improve much on his recent Galway fifth behind Grandero Bello to play a major part.

The third, Stuzzikini, has since gone on to win the valuable Troytown at Navan to give the form some real substance and the first-time visor might bring out further improvement off a workable mark of 132.

14:50 Leicester - Jac Jumper @ 5/1

Although far from disgraced on his first try at 3m last time out at Huntingdon, JAC JUMPER didn't see out the trip strongly when fourth of six runners on the day, but he will be a much bigger threat back at a more favourable trip in the 2m4f handicap chase.

A winner over hurdles when trained in France, the son of Night Wish hasn't graced the winner's enclosure in Britain yet, but he went close several times during the summer.

All of those efforts came on quick ground, so the forecast soft conditions could be a concern, but he did win in France with a bit of ease in the ground, so hopefully he will handle it. He runs from a winnable mark.
