Saturday 4th July 2026, 7:40

There's a little something for everyone on Saturday with eight meetings on the schedule, but of course the bulk of action takes place on the flat. It's Eclipse Day at Sandown and the supporting card is packed with competitive races, while there's also Group action on offer at Newmarket.

Among our Saturday horse racing tips is a leading three-year-old for Aidan O'Brien who managed to win from an almost impossible position last time out and there could be even more to come.

14:33 Naas - Carry The Flag @ 8/13

Aidan O'Brien has really found the key to successfully training two-year-olds and his performances in Royal Ascot's juvenile races over the last couple of seasons has been exceptional.

CARRY THE FLAG failed to fire at Ascot but can bounce back here.

The son of No Nay Never landed a course-and-distance maiden on his second start and runner-up Sun Goddess has since won a Group 2, providing a strong boost to the form. A step up in grade was next on the agenda and he was a good second in the Marble Hill.

Stablemate Great Barrier Reef was the winner that day and the fact that he went on to win the Coventry Stakes suggests that Carry The Flag is also pretty useful.

Things didn't go to plan in the Norfolk Stakes, but this race is easier and he can bounce back to his best.

15:15 Newmarket - Elsass @ 7/1

There's £125,000 on offer for this competitive-looking 1m4f handicap and a field of 12 has been declared.

Charlie Johnston’s father landed the race back in 2018 and he can follow suit, provided the progressive ELSASS can continue on an upward trajectory.

His only success last year came in a Class 5 handicap at Chelmsford off a mark of 73, but the son of Sottsass has taken his form to a new level this term. Starting off at Southwell in April, he kicked clear to score impressively on that occasion.

There was more to come at Hamilton next time however and he defied a 4lb rise to score by five lengths. He's up another 8lb now but he could still be ahead of the handicapper.

15:35 Sandown - Constitution River @ 5/6

The Eclipse is one of the most prestigious races on the calendar and Aidan O'Brien has dominated it in recent years, winning the last three renewals.

It's interesting that he sends two very good horses over this time around and CONSTITUTION RIVER gets the nod.

O'Brien's colt showed a significant amount of potential as a two-year-old, although a setback led to him missing the Group 1s at the end of the season. He did land the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh back in August and left a good impression, pulling two lengths clear.

This son of Wootton Bassett bolted up in the Dee Stakes at Chester and that form has worked out very well indeed.

A trip to France for the Prix du Jockey Club came next and he won despite a terrible draw, so a victory could well be on the cards once again.
