Sandown racecourse

It's the final day of the British National Hunt season on Saturday, with Sandown being the place where the champions are crowned.

Among my horse racing tips for Saturday is a challenger for the big prize at Sandown, who has gone under the radar in all the discussion of the trainers' title fight between Willie Mullins and Dan Skelton.

Horse Racing Tips - Saturday, April 26

  • 13:50 Sandown - Eyed @ 5/1
  • 14:05 Leicester - Completely Random @ 9/2
  • 16:10 Sandown - Victtorino each-way @ 16/1

13:50 Sandown - Eyed @ 5/1

Since joining Hughie Morrison this season, EYED has been on a sharp upward curve and that has not stopped despite him having finished second on his last two starts.

The reason Eyed has been beaten the last twice, in two warm 3m races at Uttoxeter and Ayr, is that he has been outstayed. His previous win at 3m came in a fast finish, which suggests stamina was not tested thoroughly.

Here he drops back to 2m4f. The shorter distance should help him to see his race out more thoroughly, which can get this progressive novice chaser back to winning ways.

14:05 Leicester - Completely Random @ 9/2

Such was COMPLETELY RANDOM's form in some warm sprints last season, you would have imagined that he had some wins in him in 2025. What you might not have expected was for the first to come over 5f at Southwell, least of all when he had initially been outpaced.

The 5f track at Southwell is all about speed and Completely Random was off the bridle early doors there last time. He ought to have disappeared out of the back of the television, but instead he picked up strongly to go past a couple of race-fit and in-form types who had gone about things in the more typical Southwell way.

Last season, Completely Random's form came over 6f at stiffer tracks. He was sixth to James's Delight (now Group class) at York and second to Woodhay Wonder (fourth at Royal Ascot next time) at Newmarket.

Because of that, there are few fears about him running over the stiff straight track at Leicester. He very much deserves to be favourite at a track where horses with his finishing rattle do well.

16:10 Sandown - Victtorino each-way @ 16/1

Everyone has got wrapped up in the battle for the trainers' title between Willie Mullins and Dan Skelton. There is only one horse not trained by either of those two men available at single-figure odds for the feature bet365 Gold Cup.

While VICTTORINO is not put forward as the likeliest winner, it is argued that he should be in that group shorter than 10/1. He has loads of form in top handicaps, and has some untapped potential for extreme trips. He handles decent ground, too.

The reason he is not shorter in the betting is down to the idea that he is at his best at Ascot. However, he was also third in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury, a very different track. Add to that that Sandown is stiff and right-handed, much like Victtorino's beloved Ascot.

Victtorino was also without much blame at Cheltenham last time. He was affected by a chaotic start in the Ultima and could never get involved. He has a better chance of setting the record straight at Sandown than his price implies.

This is an Extra Place Race, with 5 places available instead of 4 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

16:10 Sandown - Each-way (1/5 - 5 places) Victtorino
