Haydock Park Racecourse

There are a whopping 10 live races on ITV3 on Saturday and it’s a fantastic feast of terrestrial action for punters to enjoy. First off is Haydock, before they go at the Curragh, Goodwood, York, while away from ITV3 they race at Chester, Cartmel, Salisbury and Windsor.

Amongst our Saturday racing tips is one for trainer Jim Goldie, who saddles his stable star at Haydock and might just have him in peak form.

Saturday Racing Tips

  • 14:05 Goodwood - Local Arms @ 17/2
  • 15:00 Haydock - Zip @ 3/1
  • 15:30 Haydock - Euchen Glen @ 16/1

14:05 Goodwood - Local Arms @ 17/2

The Height Of Fashion Stakes has been won by some classy fillies and the one to be on this year is Local Arms, who appears to have loads more to offer for trainer Karl Burke.

LOCAL ARMS looked very smart last season when bolting up by eight lengths at Beverley and she was turned out quickly to compete in a valuable race at this course on her next outing.

She wasn’t able to compete with impressive winner Chic Colombine and finished only fourth, but that wasn’t a bad run and maybe she found the race coming too quickly. She also ran into a smart winner, who has since won a Listed race, and the fifth also won in that grade.

It evidently was a good run from Local Arms and the step up in trip looks certain to suit as there is stamina in her pedigree. It will be a surprise if she doesn’t take another step forward.

15:00 Haydock - Zip @ 3/1

This looks like an outstanding chance for ZIP to take advantage of his falling mark as he returns to a track where he has run well before and is off the same rating as for his last win.

That came in a heavy ground 7f handicap at Doncaster only last October, so we know he still retains plenty of ability despite his advancing years, and he has shaped like he could cash in on his drop in the ratings on his last two starts. He finished second on both of those outings.

The first run was his best as he was beaten only by well-handicapped winner, Earls, over course and distance and did clearly best of those who raced on the front end. A reproduction of that form may be enough.

Zip ran another solid race when runner-up at Newcastle last time, but he is a better horse on turf and that is particularly true when the mud is flying. He will have that in his favour here.

15:30 Haydock - Euchen Glen @ 16/1

It could be a good day for the old favourites at Haydock because EUCHEN GLEN is still showing sparkle at the age of 11 and he is handicapped to win if he shows his form.

The Jim Goldie-trained runner was rated 116 at his peak by the BHA and ran several good races off marks in the 90s last year, including when fourth in the Ebor at York in August.

That came off a rating of 96, so he is surely capable of being competitive off just 89 here and he is a course winner who loves plenty of cut in the ground. He will have that in his favour.

He also shaped like he could soon return to winning ways when second behind well-handicapped winner Capital Theory at Hamilton last time. That wasn’t a deep race, but Euchen Glen saw off everything else easily and might be hard to beat off the same mark here.
