Horse Racing Tips: A Daisy victory wouldn’t be the craziest result at Newbury

Newbury racecourse

There’s plenty of racing action taking place on Saturday, with six meetings across Britain and Ireland and nine races being televised on ITV.

Kelso kicks us off before they go at Bangor, Navan and Newbury, while the all-weather evening entertainment is provided by Wolverhampton and Newcastle. We have three strong fancies for our horse racing tips for Saturday, including a fascinating handicap debutant for Nicky Henderson that could have any amount of improvement in the tank.

Horse Racing Tips - Saturday, March 22

13:50 Kelso - Wyenot @ 10/11

It’s very difficult to see past Henry Daly’s runner WYENOT at Kelso, as her recent form is by far the best on offer. There was plenty to like about her easy win in Listed company at Doncaster back in December as she was well in control that day.

Making all the running, she jumped noticeably well and once this mare turned the screw, the race was put to bed quickly. It’s worth noting that she got the better of both Ottizzini and Gale Mahler that day and it’s hard to see them reversing the form.

Third behind two very smart mares in Grade 2 company after that, she was far from disgraced and you would imagine most of her rivals here would have been well beaten.

Wyenot would need to under perform in order to get beaten here and she’s also well suited by the weight conditions of the race.

14:05 Newbury - Calimystic @ 8/1

CALIMYSTIC showed plenty of promise when beaten a length into second in a Taunton bumper back in November and the third that day has boosted the form by winning over hurdles since.

Filling the same spot on his debut over hurdles at Doncaster after that, it was obvious that he would be winning races sooner rather than later.

He kept on well to take second that day and and may well have finished closer with a better jump at the last. The winner was on course to run well before falling in the National Hunt Novices' Handicap Hurdle Final next time out and that form looks fairly solid.

This son of Califet took a big step forward to win easily over the same course and distance next time and he pulled clear to win by seven lengths, despite the fact that James Bowen eased him down before the line.

An opening handicap mark of 118 is hard to argue with on the evidence of that dominant success and you would imagine there’s plenty more still to come.

This is an Super Extra Place Race, meaning that Betfred will pay 4 Places (1/5 Odds) rather than 3 for each-way bets.

15:15 Newbury - Crazierthandaisy @ 9/1

Nicky Henderson’s CRAZIERTHANDAISY took a couple of starts to get the hang of things over hurdles, but managed to get off the mark at Warwick in December and looks capable of scoring at Newbury.

The daughter of Walk In The Park was strong at the finish that day and pulled a couple of lengths clear of Come On Nia, who is in opposition once again here.

Her profile suggests she’s likely to improve again and handicaps could encourage further progress too.

She has been given a big chance by the handicapper and it’s very hard to argue with an opening mark of 109.

That could underestimate her by some way and it’s very unlikely that we’ve seen the best of her just yet.

This is an Extra Place Race, meaning that Betfred will pay 5 Places (1/5 Odds) rather than 4.
