Ascot Racecourse 2

Flat racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Saturday with eight meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

First off is Newmarket before they go to Limerick, Redcar, Down Royal, Royal Ascot, Ayr, Haydock Park and Lingfield Park. Amongst our Saturday Racing Tips is one for trainer Tim Easterby who won a Group 1 over the course and distance on Champions Day in October and could be ready to strike again.

Saturday Racing Tips - June 23

  • 15:45 Royal Ascot - Art Power @ 12/1
  • 16:25 Royal Ascot - Haatem @ 3/1
  • 17:05 Royal Ascot - Chipstead @ 33/1

15:45 Royal Ascot - Art Power @ 12/1

Khaadem (80/1) and Naval Crown (33/1) provided two massive upsets in the 6f Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes in the last two years and this year's renewal is set to be very competitive too.

Ralph Beckett's Kinross is now a seven-year-old and this is the horse's main target so he commands plenty of respect, but Tim Easterby's ART POWER is the pick at the prices.

It took him 15 attempts at Group 1 level to finally get his head in front when winning the Champions Sprint over track and trip in October, albeit the ground was quite soft on that occasion.

Art Power only folded late on when a close-up fourth in the Greenland Stakes at the Curragh when last seen and if he gets a soft time of things on the front end back here he's going to be hard to pass.

16:25 Royal Ascot - Haatem @ 3/1

It has been a stellar week at Royal Ascot for Wathnan Racing and it's good to see owners being rewarded for investing so heavily into the sport.

One of their most recent purchases has been HAATEM, who should take the world of beating in the 7f Jersey Stakes. This year's Craven winner was behind Rosallian when third in the 2,000 Guineas and chased the same runner home in the Irish equivalent.

Rosallion is the best miler in training at present, so how Haatem isn't favourite for this Group 3 contest is anyone's guess. He had the beating of River Tiber at the Curragh and should beat him again.

17:05 Royal Ascot - Chipstead e/w @ 33/1

Moving on to a very competitive Wokingham where CHIPSTEAD seems to be overlooked in the market, but he has massive claims for trainer Roger Teal with talented 5lb claimer Jack Doughty aboard.

Well backed for the Dash at Epsom last time, they didn't go hard enough up front on a quirky track for him to get involved, but he plugged on nicely into sixth and had plenty left in the locker.

Chipstead was well beaten in this race last year from a mark of 106, but factoring in rider's claims he's now 10lb lower and he was drawn on the wrong side of the track on that occasion too.

Everything looks set for a big run and at the prices he is worthy of an each-way bet.
