Today's Horse Races

14.25 Cheltenham - Issar D’Airy @ 10/3

If ISSAR D'AIRY can reproduce the form of his second to Martator at Ascot two starts back he must have an outstanding chance in Cheltenham’s 2m handicap chase. Issar D’Airy did well to make a race of it with Martator, who is now rated 17lb higher after bolting up in a similar event since, and the selection technically goes off the same mark as he did at Ascot as he was 2lb wrong there.

Heavily supported at Newbury two weeks ago, Issar D’Airy gave the impression he required a stronger test of stamina to be seen to best effect there and the return to a stiff track should be in his favour.

It seems a certainty that Issar D’Airy will be winning races sooner rather than later and the application of first-time cheekpieces, along with talented conditional Freddie Mitchell being back aboard to take 5lb off, can seal the deal.

15.00 Cheltenham - Jet Blue @ 7/2

Owner Caroline Tisdall’s French raid on Friday’s card at Cheltenham went awry with Iceo Madrik unseating in the cross-country chase, but better fortunes may await her latest runner JET BLUE in this Grade 2 novice hurdle.

Jet Blue appears to be more adaptable regarding ground conditions than many from his country, having landed a Grade 2 bumper on a good to soft surface before going close in a deeper-ground race in that sphere at the highest level in September.

He is at an experience edge over many of the lightly-raced novices in opposition and the way he finishes out his races suggests he is a stayer in the making. The step up in trip can enable Jet Blue to raise his game further, and the fact France’s champion jockey James Reveley has been persuaded over for just the one ride is a positive.

Trainer David Cottin has trained two winners and two seconds from ten previous runners at the track.

15.35 Cheltenham - Georgi Girl @ 13/2

GEORGI GIRL arrives with outstanding claims in the 2m4f mares’ handicap hurdle at Cheltenham for the Philip Hobbs and Johnson White team.
A progressive youngster last campaign before her progress curtailed on bad ground in the Imperial Cup at Sandown, Georgi Girl looked better than ever on her return at Warwick.

She quickly went from last to first to put a race to bed that wasn’t strongly run, suggesting she was comfortably ahead of her mark. A 5lb rise undersells her superiority over her rivals there and she is deserving of this step up in grade.

A five-year-old on a sharp upward curve, Georgi Girl is capable of turning over this race’s short-priced favourite Joyeuse, who is priced up on her connections and pedigree rather than substance of her form.
