Saturday is a busy one from a racing respective, with eight meetings taking place across the UK and Ireland. First off is Ascot before they go at the Curragh, Newmarket, Redcar, Haydock, Kilbeggan, Lingfield and Ayr.

Among our horse racing tips for Saturday is a smart five-year-old who has slipped to a tempting mark on Shergar Cup day at Ascot.

Horse Racing Tips - Saturday, August 10

  • 15:00 Haydock - Bracken's Laugh @ 5/1
  • 15:40 Newmarket - Elsie's Ruan @ 12/1
  • 16:30 Ascot - Tacarib Bay e/w @ 20/1

15:00 Haydock - Bracken's Laugh @ 5/1

Anmaat is the obvious favourite for Haydock's Rose of Lancaster Stakes as a Group 1 winner with previous form in this race who is running without a penalty. However, siding with long-absent six-year-olds at a short price is a dangerous tactic and BRACKEN'S LAUGH makes greater appeal at bigger odds.

Bracken’s Laugh beat King’s Gambit on his debut and was the one to take out of the Dee Stakes at Chester two starts back when a close second to Capulet, who was given a peach of a front-running ride by Ryan Moore.

While the selection couldn’t uphold that form with third Jayarebe in the Hampton Court Stakes, there are reasons to give him another chance.

Bracken’s Laugh seemingly found the ground too quick at the royal meeting and has since been sent for a wind operation after failing to finish his race with conviction. Trainer Richard Hughes is showing a 20% strike-rate with runners returning from that procedure.

Today's Horse Races

15:40 Newmarket - Elsie's Ruan @ 12/1

The Sweet Solera market revolves around runners trained by Aidan O’Brien and Charlie Appleby. That could be misleading, though, as Gemma Tutty appears to have a real player in ELSIE'S RUAN.

Tutty is enjoying a strong season and backing all of her horses to £1 stakes this term would have yielded a £34.63 profit. The market is underestimating her runners and Elsie’s Ruan

arrives unbeaten, having landed a big-field York maiden ahead of an odds-on favourite 15 days ago.

The second was a good yardstick as his form tied in with smart juvenile sprinter Billboard Star and there was daylight back to the third.

It is likely this daughter of Ulysses, whose progeny are renowned for developing with time and experience, will take a leap forward with that behind her and she might be up to propelling Tutty to the big time under Rab Havlin.

16:30 Ascot - Tacarib Bay e/w @ 20/1

The recent form of Richard Hannon's runners is a natural worry about TACARIB BAY’s chance in the mile handicap at the Shergar Cup, but the trainer did at least saddle winners at 100-30 and 13-2 from three runners on Thursday and this five-year-old doesn’t deserve to be one of the outsiders.

Tacarib Bay does not arrive in the best form, but the handicapper has reacted accordingly and this is far weaker than the races he usually contests. Ascot is typically a happy hunting ground for Tacarib Bay. He was caught on the wrong side in the Buckingham Palace Stakes on his latest outing, but he has been placed in both his outings over course and distance and won his group of 14 when sixth in the 2023 International Stakes.

All of those solid efforts came off much higher ratings and this versatile sort is down to a career-low mark, so deserves considering.

This is a Super Extra Place Race, with Betfred paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.
