Flat racing holds sway across Britain on Monday, with just one National Hunt fixture and three Flat meetings scheduled to take place across the day.

Kelso kicks us off and is swiftly followed by a turf fixture at Redcar and an all-weather card from Wolverhampton, with Kempton providing the evening entertainment.

We have three strong fancies to follow on Monday and amongst them is an intriguing William Haggas runner at Kempton that should be capable of finding further improvement.

Horse Racing Tips - Monday, April 7

  • 14:15 Kelso - Diamond Dealer @ 5/2

14:15 Kelso - Diamond Dealer @ 5/2

DIAMOND DEALER absolutely bolted up in a maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter on good ground back in October. He made all the running and pulled further and further clear, eventually going on to score by 26 lengths, with the runner-up boosting the form by winning next time.

Truth be told he's been a little disappointing since with that in mind but it was a much better display when runner-up in handicap company at Doncaster last time. A little too keen in the early stages, if settling better this time, he can do himself a big favour.

More will be needed off a 2lb higher mark here but the step up in trip might help and he's entitled to be in the mix once again. It’s a 624-mile round trip from Newmarket to Kelso and connections won’t want to come home empty handed.

18:30 Kempton - Rogue Encore @ 10/1

Peter Chapple-Hyam’s ROGUE ENCORE showed some promise in three starts in maiden and novice company but progressed significantly to run a cracker on handicap debut at Windsor. Finishing third that day, he was beaten less than a length with Rossa Ryan on board.

A couple of inexplicably poor efforts followed but he managed to get off the mark at Newcastle in November and followed up over the same course and distance off a 3lb higher rating 10 days later. We probably haven’t seen the best of him yet and he remains relatively lightly raced.

He had some bad luck in running when in need of the run in the Spring Mile at Doncaster on seasonal debut and better is expected now, with the benefit of that previous run under his belt and back down in grade. This event is definitely easier and perhaps a return to winning ways is on the cards.

19:30 Kempton - Carbine Harvester @ 2/1

William Haggas’ CARBINE HARVESTER has still only had seven starts to date and you would imagine there’s more to come from the three-year-old. Runner-up in a better race at Lingfield when last seen, he can go one better here, despite a 2lb rise in the weights.

He didn’t show a great deal in three maiden and novice starts but the penny dropped on handicap debut at Wolverhampton in December and he managed to get off the mark. Harry Burns has developed a good relationship with the gelding and continues to take 3lb off.

Whether or not the handicapper is catching up with him remains to be seen but it could be worth sticking with him for the time being and he should be capable of winning more races off this sort of mark.
