Plumpton scaled

There’s plenty of racing to enjoy on Monday, with no fewer than five meetings taking place across Britain. Kempton kicks us off before the action continues at Plumpton, Hereford and Wolverhampton, while Southwell takes us through the evening.

My horse racing tips for the day includes a three-time course winner for the Moores at Plumpton.

Horse Racing Tips - Monday, November 4

  • 15:05 Plumpton - Mark Of Gold e/w @ 12/1
  • 15:40 Plumpton - Shared @ 11/4
  • 15:45 Hereford - Love Tree @ 6/4

15:05 Plumpton - Mark Of Gold e/w @ 12/1

Plumpton has always been a happy hunting ground for Gary Moore, as the track has provided him with 228 winners. While he’s yet to add to that tally since operating under a joint licence with son Josh, there’s a good chance the pair can get off the mark here.

Niall Houlihan’s mount Yellow Star appears to be the yard’s first string in this race but MARK OF GOLD shouldn’t be written off, with Rob Hargreaves taking 7lb off.

Mark Of Gold definitely likes it at Plumpton as this seven-time hurdles winner has scored three three wins at the track. A good winner off a 4lb lower mark at Kempton in February, he should be competitive.

Fitness won’t be an issue as the seven-year-old has had a couple of recent starts on the Flat. It’s entirely possible that the handicapper has him right where he wants him but this looks like a good chance to return to winning ways and a big run can’t be ruled out.

This is an Extra Place Race, with 3 places on offer instead of 2 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

15:40 Plumpton - Shared @ 11/4

Harry Derham has made an excellent start to his training career and SHARED could add another to his growing list of winners. Operating at a more than reasonable strike-rate of 24% so far this season, further success could be on the cards here.

Shared was a useful juvenile hurdler and made the perfect start to his career in this sphere when winning cosily at Wetherby in January 2023.

He then wasn’t beaten far when fifth behind the useful Afadil in Listed company and went in again under a penalty at Doncaster. That was a game effort and he showed a terrific attitude to come out on top.

This son of Almanzor won a decent four-year-old handicap at Chepstow on his seasonal debut last term but struggled in four subsequent starts and his mark is falling nicely as a result.

He should be much sharper with the benefit of having a previous run under his belt, as he may have needed the outing when finishing third at Kelso last month. A mark of 118 certainly isn’t beyond him and he can get back on track.

15:45 Hereford - Love Tree @ 6/4

Watch out for LOVE TREE at Hereford, as James Owen’s filly is making her handicap debut off what looks like a very appealing mark of 112. The daughter of Camelot has a 50% strike-rate over hurdles and is clearly the one to side with here.

The first of her two hurdles successes came at Ludlow in December on soft ground. She travelled powerfully throughout the race and the result never looked in doubt.

While her best form has come on soft, she has a Flat pedigree and shouldn’t be too inconvenienced by quicker conditions. Her second in a Huntingdon bumper on good ground is enough evidence to remain confident.

This opening mark looks very generous and it wouldn’t be a surprise if she was to make a mockery of it here. It could be a while before the handicapper catches up.
